  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet and Epic BUILD 4.0.6 BETA

Hi,

since we installed the 4.0.6 BETA we had 2 faulty clips out of a few fully recorded Redmags. When i open the Redmag in Redcine X there is no preview picture for the damaged clip instead it displays "offline". When i open the Redmag in the finder the damaged clip seems to have the proper file size but there`s no way the play it back.

Never had this problem before installing the 4.0.6 BETA. Is this firmware related or is there something wrong with my Redmags? Anyone else here had this problem?
I've had this problem in 3.3.1.5 or w/e the official release build is right now.

Jeffrey, have you found any way how to recover these faulty clips? The strange thing is that i just checked with our latest Redmag and i can play the clip on the camera but when i eject the clip and open it on my mac it say "offline" again.

For now we have been lucky with the two faulty clips beeing not really important but it would be a bummer if this happens with relevant footage!

I have used the build a bit and so far so good. How safe does everyone feel the build is to use for production? I really like some of the new features. A few glitches are acceptable, we can do retakes.

A couple of possible bugs:

Can't get out of test patterns such as color bars, have to re-boot camera.
No timecode out HD-SDI when camera is generating timecode.
No record trigger out HD-SDI when camera is set to external record. I didn't test it with internal recording.

Has anyone eles come across these problems?

Andreas -please see my posts...I have shot some incredibly sensitive cultural material and am kicking myself for using this build. In spite of the new tricks I would really make sure you shoot and then take into RC-X to verify you're getting what you think you're shooting. I have no idea if my camera is simply an anomaly with some sort of internal problem but it's made me gun shy about using it again.

I used this build on 3 projects so far and everything looks great except for a little bug.
I had a problem with the power save mode. When the camera snaps out of it, sometimes it takes a reboot to get everything working again.
Not using it right now and so far so good.

Here is original...the one before I bumped up FLUT so people could more easily see what I'm talking about.

unless you are running at 25 fan speed in record and standby and not turning off the camera it seems you have an issue as even with 40 let alone 35 in mild temperatures the camera should run for at the very least for a good 15 to 20 minutes. That is my experience with my camera in mild climate running tests for long shots in quiet scenarios. Also I have found shutting down vs running at 75 or whatever will in fact cool the camera faster.

I can't imagine this would be caused by firmware but who knows...

all you can do is test ahead of time adjust and see what you can get, but those lines seem to be a sensor issue as I have never seen them, are they fixed pattern or moving/strobing? aside from you running it real hot and not taking precautions against it I would say you have a sensor issue, perhaps a hardware issue. Though what do I know, I would send a log file to RED and begin troubleshooting the problem to narrow down the causes... if you have already please excuse this reply. Hope you find a solution, Have a nice day!

I know. As I've said using the pervious firmware I haven't had any issue. Maybe there's something under the hood because I black shaded (successfully) about two hours before I recorded anything...I did some tests immediately after and did playback and the material seemed OK on the monitor and LCD. But these are not at all exposed the way the LCD and monitor were telling me when I was shooting a bit later.

This image is five stops or so underexposed from what I thought I was shooting...and I've been shooting with this camera for a couple years now.

This is a major issue since the event was historic and of extreme cultural significance...you wouldn't know it from this still. I'm off to contact Red and hopefully we can get this sorted.

Had a small shoot with this firmware today. Worked flawless. Did notice some delay when magnifying on the LCD and the screen went darker, but it lasted maybe a second

Had a day shooting wildlife with macro lenses, using pre-record, which I loved. I found though, when shooting at 75fps that my 10 sec prerecord was giving me 30 seconds - which was way tooooo long. I'd much prefer a number of shorter durations - say 1 sec, 2 sec, 5 sec or the ability to assign a number of frames - e.g. a prerecord cache of 100 frames which would give me 4 secs at 25 fps or 4 secs if I shot at 100 fps and then played out at 25.
I've not been able to get it out of pre-record mode either - tried going back to continuous recording etc - what am I missing?

Version 4.0.6 does offer shorter pre-record times (down to 4 seconds).

Pre-Record is not really a mode, you need to trigger it. However, in 4.0.6 we added a "Always trigger Pre-Record before recording" checkbox (in Settings->Recording->Pre-Record). Make sure this is unchecked.

When in Sleep Mode, Is it just me or does it not seem like the battery life lasts any longer? whats the purpose of sleep mode?

Question. Normally I turn off the camera by holding down the power button. Is this correct? Often when I restart it sais that the camera was not properly shut down.Am I doing it wrong?
Andreas

Not according to _my_ Scarlet. I do it the same way. No such warning on restart....
I think the viewfinder (I have a BOMB) sez "Shutting down" as it cycles off. Does yours? You do have to hold the SIDE REC button long enough to go into the Shut Down mode.
