  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet 8x internal 120FPS test

yeah, this thread got thick real quick. i happened to be trying to go to bed right before jarred hit us with it, so naturally i've been hooked ever since... if you go through and look at all the red posts there's some fun and interesting posts from jim, jarred, et al about this humble "test"

oh and yes this is the 8x fixed prototype

Yah read them all already, waiting for more postings from this 'humble test". haha which came out really freaking awesome.
Going to crash soon. This thread made me feel really good. refreshed.

Insane test!! Really stoked to take this beast into the wild. I just realised how amazing scarlet will be for backcountry work. At the side with an canon mounted Epic-S it will be a major productionfriendly b-cam. Really making it a complete toolkit without compromising.

The Alexa is going to be so lonely on the shelf in a lot of production trips. The ability to hike the cameras up to beautifull remote places with man power only, whitout the need of any machines that is such a unique vallue in and of itselve.

Also really curious for RED's smaller mattebox that will fit scarlet. Thank you for this test project, that keeps hearts beating out loud.

After this what I saw definitely that Scarlet Fixed is my next purchase decision!!!

haha... i really can't wait for everybody to start getting these cameras so we can watch everyone's videos.... that's going to be awesome.

Holy shit !

Oooookay ! How did you manage to make a 120 fps slomo with that kind of light ? O_o

I don't need another cam now...

So happy you guys really debuted this thing in style! Every couple of seconds I was more and more pumped, haha. Can't wait to see this camera take over the skateboarding world. Don't forget to put together a really solid handle and a way to protect the lens, maybe even a nice fisheye adapter if you want to go all out ;)

Can. Not. Wait..

easy on the fisheye's please :) i've about had enough of seeing bike wheels and skateboard trucks take up the whole screen... too much distortion.

i used to watch these shows on fuel when i was younger. i got so tired of this biking show because they filmed the whole dang thing on a fisheye. and yes the fisheye is interesting, but it's much more effective when it's used purposefully and limitedly... not just because the cameraman is lazy and wants to make sure they can get the shot while holding the camera an inch off the ground.... lame, sorry.

like your work btw, andrew. my comment isn't so much directed at you as it is me getting out my frustrations that even now when i turn on that channel half the time i'm seeing fisheye's forever. kind of like some backcountry snowboarding videos that only use really extreme telephoto shots, even though they are at least tolerable, and sometimes understandable.

Matt Bennett from Toy Machine and Scarlet ????? Dude im fan of Matt.
Scarlet Fixed will be the A-Cam for Sk8 movies in future..
is there any chance to share some R3D. files from this test?

Just a little something you threw together eh? Very exciting. Very cool.

I'd love to know the focal length as well, thats some pretty sick stuff, can't wait to take her for a test drive. Hopefully in September.

I think that shot contains every 'offensive' element you have been given s**t for in all previous tests!

Props:cheers2:

As a skater myself I was impressed with the one take and of course the smoothness of the shot.
Someone said "holy sh*t!!" earlier. Being Canadian Im accustomed to "holy crap!!"

Is there production notes anywhere on this shoot?
Dying to know the lighting in this one:)
