  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet 8x internal 120FPS test

Hey Jarred , why did the 120 fps Scarlet video I uploaded got a copyright claim but not the one on this guy's channel ?

Shesh didn't have to be so mean just because I wanted to share the footage with others >.>

Posting this on YouTube is kinda a travesty, it looks HORRIBLE.

That said, the comments on that video are hilarious.
Can my monitor even run this in 120fps.
ofcourse you cant do 120fps on youtube and 1080p is useless here with shitty bitrate.. overall what the f*ck you expect from youtube?
120FPS? what is the current number in FPS for the current so-called "super cameras" of nowadays?

Hey Jarred,

Just curious as to why there isn't a DP involved in the test? There is a Director and Producer, as well as heads of electrical and other departments. I'm sure there are many talented guys in your local area whom are at the absolute top of their field that would be keen to work with you and happily give their time for free. I know I certainly would be happy to, particularly as red is my format of choice for a large percentage of my work.

Or is it a role that you feel is superfluous in the context of digital image acquisition?

The potential of the camera looks very exciting though. Congrats on the ongoing successes in development.

Jarred lit it, Jarred shot it, he's the DP. As far as involving other DP's, I'm pretty sure their Tattoo program existed to do exactly this and seems to have been a great success.

heh heh to me the D.P is that 3rd spot in the top 3 behind the producer and the director.. one of the most important pieces of the puzzle.

As Bill mentioned I was the D.P. I also wrote it, directed it, operated the camera, edited it, graded it, and did the sound. I didnt put any of those in the credits because I felt like a toolbag putting my name in there more than once.

Honestly....That is really is why there are no credits for those roles, i did not mean to suggest they had no value. I actually was thinking of just making up random names for those spots but the credits ended up being almost longer than the actual shot as it was so i just left them out... again.. no disrespect to any of those positions intended.

The timing of every piece happening at just the right moment was more important than anything.. and to that the real guys that need to take the credit for this shoot actually working is Matt the Skateboarder.. who nailed it on every single take, My Dolly Grip, and all the supporting actors.

Thanks Jarred. Really appreciate you clarifying that side of it :)

I'm just quite aware that you guys provide a lot of inspiration to a great number of people, and play a very powerful role in the way in which filmmaking is developing and evolving as both an art form and as a business. Obviously with that power comes responsibility and I was curious as to your perspective on that side of things, as the decisions you make in the creative process will no doubt hold great influence. Great to know your thoughts on it and appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Serious kudos for all the work so far, both technical and creative. The future is an exciting prospect for all!

Wonder what kind of engine is in the that truck. ;)

Vortec 6.2L HO bored V8 pulled straight out of a 2009 Escalade ( took the transmission with it and married it to an ATLAS II transfer case with independent axle gearing with in-cab control). Headman Headers ( only mistake ) with No Cat Converters to get in the way.

And you have yet to take it up to Moab to scratch the hell out of it?

scratched the hell out of it a few weeks ago near the salt flats in the middle of the desert.. but thats what it's for.

Jarred, btw I was wondering, are you cranking your cars all by yourself, too? Sounds like it. If so, as the French say: chapeau ! :)

I'm a little late but I finally watched the video. The content was creative, I liked it. It reminded me of Dark City for whatever reason... the style I guess. The slow motion was of course fantastic, but the image quality of the .mov file failed to impress me at all. I mean it was obviously a heavily compressed file, but even outside of the artifacting it just didn't have that clarity and perceived resolution I was expecting.

It's not just heavily compressed, but it's also low resolution @ 1024x510. If you were watching it in full-screen it's bound to look soft. Also, Quicktime is notorious for gamma shift problems, thus on some computers it's going to look washed out and lacking in contrast.

Maybe you have been looking at 4K and 5K for too long?

This is one of the most exciting things I've seen. If you guys ever need an extra pair of hands when shooting videos for "fun" let me know. haha

Just mho , but this was shot back in June. By all means read and research old threads , but is it really necessary to resurrect them...........
