  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RPPs

RED Pro Primes (RPPs)

5 lens set- $19K
(25mm T1.8, 35mm T1.8, 50mm T1.8, 85mm T1.8, 100mm T1.8)

6 lens set (adds 300mm)- $23K.
Why not a 4 lens set without the 100mm for $15,000?

You'd have more customers.

I think it makes more sense for RED to make the same amount of the different lenses as they possibly can. That being said, you can still get the 4-lens set (without the 100mm) for $17K. That's a killer deal, especially if you consider the 5-lens set cost $20K just yesterday. Of course you still get a better deal if you buy all 5. I think their program is extremely fair and desirable!

For the record, I think $19k is still probably a great deal, but I still think a deeper discount was coming until the other sets turned out to be a disappointment. Oh well, I needed them to be $15ish and they aren't, that's fair. I'll need to wait and see how summer rentals go, maybe I'll join you folks in Sep

If the quality is what usually reliable people claim, anything less than $40k is a good deal...

Wonder how many sets have sold so far?

this forum is getting strange, do people really know what film lenses with lower number t-stops cost? Many of us are excited to rent these for actual 35mm cameras.

I haven't received any email. Has everyone who owns a RED received it?

It's amazing how different the customer service expectations are for Red. We want this discount package, that discount package, and the other discount package, we want trade-ins for old equipment, we want credit for old equipment, etc.

If I called Nikon and gave them my D2x serial number and said I wanted a $5000 credit towards a D3x they'd hang up on me!

Red gives an inch and everyone wants a mile.

Brad: you sum it up with terse eloquence.

Although I'd add a footnote: TOO MANY want a mile -- I think there are a less vociferous group of amazed & satisfied.

I just wanted to confirm that the shipping order should be, 1st, those who already had a res, then in order of camera ship date, and finally, people who don't have cameras.

Jarred posted this on the RRP thread only about a day before the contradicting email sent out to owners from Red:

Right away I fedexed to camera #228, that I've owned since delivery from red in Jan 2008, to Red for a belated transfer to my name, so that it's in my name by April 28... then comes the email says reservations will be placed by camera delivery date. So someone is wr... wr... wrong.

I took #228 off a job, to send it in to Red, because I took what Jarred said to be fact.

The thing is, camera delivery date is different to Red One Serial number for most owners.

Not too happy today:(

why did you take the camera of a job, you dont need to send in your camera to buy lenses...your post is confusing. Regarding date/sn. If you choose to wait a year before taking delivery why should you jump in line ahead of someone who paid for their camera on time. You cant have your cake and eat it too.

I paid for that camera before it came from red in Jan 2008. No one waited for a year for delivery. Reservation was in someone else's name, though.

I Just didn't take the chance to transfer it in my name. Never saw a reason to.

Jarred gave me a very good reason to a few days ago, by stating that RPP reservations this week, and before April 29, would be placed in order of RED ONE serial number.
That requires sending in the camera, for assessment and name transfer. Not really confusing.

"serial number means "serial number".
"delivery date means "delivery date".
Both things get mentioned for the RPP delivery schedule. THAT's what's confusing.

...Someone from Red said to me today "well, things change pretty fast around here"

so if you paid for your camera when the serial number came up, what is the problem? if thats the case they are one and the same. The reason Red uses "delivery date" instead of serial number is that some res holders waited a year to take delivery, so they should not move backwards in the queue. If you paid on time then your serial number and delivery date will equal the same time frame.

Brother, I don't think you get it, and I don't think you're reading what I'm writing.

"serial number" means "serial number".
"delivery date" means "delivery date".

Both things get mentioned for the RPP delivery schedule. Both by Red employees. At about the same time. And they will mean different lens delivery dates... THAT's what's confusing.
but... whatever...

When they say "serial number", they really mean "delivery date". That's been the order fulfillment policy for some time now. Like for about a year.
