  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rokinon Cine Primes on EPIC, first Impressions

Still looking for wide-open 24mm .r3ds if anyone has some (particularly with a skintone in there). I know the 35 and 85 are stupidly good looking even wide-open (definitely worth their price tag from both an image and mechanics standpoint), but have heard much less praise for the 24.

Very interested to see how the 16mm F2 turns out as well (assuming it covers APS-C/s35 and comes in a cine-version sooner or later.)

Kyle...
No Vignetting at all at 24mm 5K 2:1 with cine adapter rings on lens........

edit: wait a minute......how in the hell do i get a higher rez images uploaded......?
Lovely stuff. I believe I am sold. How many filters did you have stacked Paul?

Can anyone comment on the focusing with the cine version of these lenses? Do you have a nice long focus pull or is it really short like a stills lens? I have a mix of sigma and canon stills lenses and I am really happy with the images I'm getting with them but complex focus pulling shots can get really tough.

Compared to all my other stills they're longer but I don't know if I'd classify them as long. I'll ask my ACs and see what they think

Camera is rented out till the 25th but Ill get one for you by then if no one else post one

Just received my 35mm - Focusing ring is smooth and rotation (throw) is around 160 degrees. No exact measurement, just eye balled it but its somewhere there. Looking forward to test it out.

Thanks Kyle, I'd appreciate it.

One thing I noticed is that the focus throw on the ones I used was far more dampened/resistive than on, say, Nikkor AI/S or Canon EF lenses. Which, if you're used to the nikkors or canons, makes focusing much nicer (smoother/slower/easier to hit critical focus).

Hey guys,

here a first quick preview from my test, the motion footage follows in the next few days, this was taken at 5K 90fps, 12:1 compression with the 35mm prime at T1.5:

footage is a bit grainy but this was literally at sundown with the lens wide open.

same here Ketch, when it comes to value for money these lenses are spot on, I know at 12:1 compression its hard to judge the true image quality, but consider this a "worst case scenario" for the epic....lens wide open, high compression ration and low light....so the images can only get better from there.
I hope to have a motion preview up on wednesday.

Dominik great stuff!

Any NDs used?

I had a conversation with an employee at Calumet Photo about these lenses. And last night my clients were loving the images captured with them. Something about the aesthetic just draws people to these. I was on Duclos site and I saw something about Rokinon Raw lenses. Any body got an idea what those are about?

Dominik. I didn t buy the 14mm because IT can't hold a 77mm front thread and the front Element sticks out. Do you know if there is a screw on filter solution for that Lens?

Thanks

Pat
