  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ridley Scott and Dariusz Wolski...

This is it in terms of size, resolution, and fps:

Beauty.

Might want to add that the EPIC is also faster.

Seriously, i don't care about the fact that these industry big guys are making films with EPICS IN 3D, it can be good for us to see these big guys praisin for the Epics but in the end, these films don't have nothing to do with cinematography, they are just banal products that are easily forgotten over the years and it doesn't matter with what they film, its all about the franchising and the actors, just that. When RED announced that Sodenbergh was going to shoot CHE with a Red One, to me, it sounded more important. You people got to offer a EPIC RED to OLD CINEMA GUYS "WHO USED TO SHOT IN PANAVISION" like Terrence Malick, Paul Thomas Anderson. and other great people out there who does author films like David Lynch, Manoel de Oliveira, Godard, Herzog, …

Ridley Scott usually use film right? And if this is the Alien Prequel it might not be the run of a mill movie of the year, it might be a comeback of the greatness of Ridley, the Ridley we love for Alien and Blade Runner.

If Terrence Malick moves over to Epic, I think he will be finished with his next movie in seven years or so, might be another camera out then... :P
As for David Lynch, he already hates film, he want the easy feeling of a DV-cam... he might be the perfect match for a camera like Epic.

Nice 1st post. Terence Malick is currently shooting on RED with Chivo.

Jim

Okay, this is getting fun.

RED's Normandy however, will be Spielberg. Lets see if he's next to contract the red fever!

OK, but if they can convert Christopher Nolan then the war is over :)

Probably Avatar 2 (2014) by James Cameron - Director>>>

I'm sure that is coming.

Malick is using RED now, PTA was planning to shoot The Master with Arri D-21s I believe, Lynch shot Inland Empire with Sony DSR-PD150s... I don't think converting any of these guys to Epic will be a challenge. The bigger challenge will be to get enough made quickly so everyone that wants to shoot on Epic can :)

Wow, cograts team, Ridley seems to be a good beta tester :-)

Now, You're just tryin' to sweet-talk me into agreeing with you... I've heard it all before.

Jim -what you and your team have done in such a short period of time is incredibly inspiring...the same tools the masters are using are in the hands of independents -or at least will be soon!

I remember the THR roundtable (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTlhjUAusbU) where Tarantino said that when he couldn't shoot on film anymore, he was going to hang em' up. And Cameron looked at him like he was crazy and said something like, "uh, that might be happening sooner than you think, Quentin." (Hopefully he'll change his mind!)

Film is going the way of the flatbed and KEM, tout de suite. It's lovely, but good riddance to the expense and complexity - thanks, Red.

Herzog has shot two films on RED One already (though he had major quibbles with the boot time). As have a lot of so-called "auteurs" you are after. But, the most important film to be "Shot on RED", has to be Kiarostami's Certified Copy. It is an incredible film with immaculate compositions. So, clearly, RED is being accepted in all corners of the wide world of cinema.

Epic's sleep mode should be relevant too, Herzog used a Red One and hated it because of the boot time. How will it work? You boot it in the morning and shut it down at night?

Nice 1st post. (...)

Jim
Generally speaking...eu concordo com o Daniel ;-)

I agree with you Jim. That's what a few (well, a lot of us) have been saying even before Lars von Trier shot his feature with RED ONE or RED was indirectly awarded with its first Oscar.

Hey, Ridley Scott and Dariusz Wolski. All right! Congratulations to the RED team. It seems like Epic is catching on before it really exists. That must be a pretty good feeling.

I can only hope to see an "Epic First Day"-like thread when their production rolls around.

Ridley Scott's upcoming Science Fiction film, which begins principal photography this spring, will be shot on EPIC.

From Dariusz Wolski ASC:

"In my opinion, the new Red Epic camera is about to revolutionize all spectrums of the film industry.

I am going to use Epics in my new project directed by Ridley Scott. I am amazed with the quality of the image and the fact that you can shoot 5k at 120fps without compromising resolution, and most of all the size of the camera.

Combined with the Element Technica Atom 3d rig, we will be able to shoot a 3d movie with the flexibility of a conventional cinema camera.

I don't see anything that comes close to it at the moment. I can't even imagine the potential Epic will have on the big blockbuster industry as well as independent cinema."

Well then...

Jim

Now THAT is a really remarkable quote! Congratulations, Jim and Red Team.

I think they're probably hand-milling as many limited-feature Epic-M's as they can at the moment.

But to paraphrase the DP of Spiderman IV, "They're real, and they're spectacular".

Ha! The day that Tarantino shoots digital will be the one. I don't think that Spielberg is blinded by the 'Magic' of film as Tarantino is. I think he just likes the look of film and how it performs.

The cool thing is that an Indie filmmaker can afford to own and shoot the same camera that is being used on the biggest budget/blockbuster movies. I can't remember that ever being the case...

Jim
That is what set the hook in my mouth in the beginning and the fair treatment throughout has kept me on the line. Now that you have reeled me in you are doing a catch and release so I can swim in the same waters as the big Groupers.

Thanks for that. It has made all the personal sacrifice worth while.
