  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Request for 3dl LUT's in REDCINE...

If RED decides to support 3D LUT insertion, the ASC CDL, IIF/ACES, etc in their free tools that would be handy - but I doubt its near the top of their priority list ;-)

Cheers - #19

Well .... I'd put it pretty damn high up on the "priority list". It's a decent size company. The team that codes RCX isn't the same team that codes camera firmware.

If the functions are going into DSMC camera systems in the future - they need to be supported in RCX logically.

In fact - there is nothing at all stopping RED from releasing CDL + 3D LUT support in RCX right now. Regardless of whatever magic firmware updates are cooking in the kitchen.

There's also nothing at all stopping RED from releasing 3D LUTS to transform from RLF to various RED gamma either :)

I don't know about you .... but I'd like me some LUTs from Dr. Nattress ....

RELEASE THE KRAKEN !

As I mentioned on Facebook:

3D LUT

Select the 3D LUT you'd like to load and boom good to go.

1D LUTs are also supported.

So, I'm trying to figure this out... can you import 3D luts into redcine-x now? If so how?

import bottom right bellow alchemy and all that. then activate it by hatching the 3Dlut box up by unsharp mask and the others.

Thanks so much Phil! I appreciate the lightning fast response too!

I was able to to export and finish everything I need to for this project today. (Which was only like 10 clips that I needed to exported as a still TIF for a camera test)

In this case I just applied the lut(s) one clip at a time.... but if you wanted to apply the same lut to every clip is that just a matter of selecting all and then checking the 3D lut box and then loading a lut?

I tried that and it didn't seem to work. So I must be missing something.

Thanks!

You can make a Look Preset that you can apply to multiple clips with the 3D LUT.

First creat the Look using whatever settings you want, hit + in Look Presets Manager to create the new look.

You can right click on the new preset and remove what settings you don't want carried over as well when applying it to clips.

Ah okay! Perfect, I'll give that a try. Thanks so much Phil.

And just out of curiosity where are most of you appling your LUTs? In Redcine-x, Divinci, Premiere???

Depends whats done.
If there is any further processing to be done to the files the lut might as well wait. As in RCXP the lut is applied on top of everything if I'm not mistaken. So if you plan to make more color transformations later then you might as well not apply it. But a lot of times we use it for rushes to offline edit and such then RCXP is a good place to apply a lut. Normally I do that and render at 1:4 debater and prores proxy HD or such.
