  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redvolt XL Module now shipping

People who already got theirs: how long did it took for your XL Module to arrive? thanks.

I ordered Sep 26, and the Bomb Squad rep in UK said, two weeks ago, he's looking into a delivery date with HQ. So far, nothing but a deafening silence.

You are most likely going to receive yours once 4 weeks after ordering due to it being a new highly anticipated product. Due to it releasing around the holidays and then Red being on break for the holidays orders were pushed out a few weeks for preorders which means new orders in December will get filled around Feb-March or March-April.

Does anyone know of a nice compact power distribution box for the Epic to power an Atomos Samurai?

Received this today and love it :-)
Module + battery is 1178 grams together.

I also love the new boxes these ship in, got a very Apple feel to it.

Actually it looks to weigh a few grams less because you have the plastic end cap attached in the photo. Even better!

I don't care if the V-Lock/AB system has been the Industry standard for ages... The XL Module is so badass, that is now literally Screwed in to the Brain to stay... ;)

Yes it is... ;)

And while as I said, because of my decision to only use the XL Module w/XL Redvolts, it is to note again that the XL module is yet the GREATEST battery Module RED has ever made, because no only of it's design of good looks which make it photograph well for "Making Of" camera porn... But the fact that this particular Battery Module actually allows for user mounting it either directly via screwing it to the Brain, or by switching the rear element to allow for it to be now mounted on to any of the Modules such as the Adaptor, +1, Pro I/O etc. makes very flexible and I love that... The fact that is also doubles as Charger and has a Power output makes it even better!!

I ordered this one aswell. And hoping to be able to skip Vlocks all together, Got 4 XL batteries and 12 volts. And the plan is to use it with the +1 to have two power outs, one for Bolt and one for FF (heden) But my worry is that it will not suport that amount of power out take. I got a Quad module aswell and as I understand I can not use it together with the XL module, which is a bit sad. Would be nice to be able to have three XL bats on the camera at once for long studio days and such.

I have tried every possible Power combination, and at the end I decided that the absolute best one was that of having the XL Module directly screwed to the Brain, eliminating even the +1 Module, as at the end I'll either use a RED Touch or EVF at one time and not together, were the second viewing display with either Red devise would be an HD-SDI/HDMI Monitor/s.

As far as powering up a secondary unit, I just don't like to overload either and believe that powering off the XL module is enough, for all other needs I'll use external power.

But I also believe that as far as power and other Modules we'll see something new at NAB...

I received my XL Module this morning. It is AMAZING in its design and build. Being able to use my RedVolt XLs in this configuration is the best way to go. Even with the Epic full body Armor the camera stays lite compared to using the Bebob 190 vmounts. This is not coming off my camera. Now I need to find something to do with my Redmote.

Awesome Job RED Team

Any one else here that just got their XL module and then got trouble with your XL batteries...

I got the XL and used it on two shoots... now 3 out of my 6 XL batteries are out / does not take charge. 2 out of 6 where a couple of years old and hardly used, the other 4 where brand new. So I'm suspecting the module eats them... RED talks about 90 days warranty something I can not really take, these batteries has been laying on the shelf waiting for the XL over 90 days.... :(

Yikes Bjorn, my XLs has been sitting on my shelf for a while now too :( unfortunately my module wont arrive in time for my shoot in barcelona or paris, so I will have to leave the XLs in NYC while I rent V mounts for my shoot :( Hope my batteries arent destroyed :/

Yeah, I had a similar situation with a little RedVolt batt back when they first came out. Had them for a while before I could use them and then on first use 1 battery simply died :( Red said 'sorry' - bummer!

Do you guys find it okay that the module is wider than the camera, and that it sticks out so much?
