  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redvolt XL Module now shipping

I know this is one of the IT products in the RED catalog. I'm excited about this product coming to fruition. I tried to make one similar to this but failed. My reference design came from my Hasselblad digital back. Thanks for making this product.

One of my favorite products of the year for sure after the Dragon. It went to 11 when we added the charging circuit. Those extra 2 months of delay were well worth it.

I had a dream that a RedVolt XL came built in into a new RED EPIC Camera "MINI" Smaller size all compacted with the RedVolt Module. Looked awesome in the dream and felt light in my hands...LOL

Can I use some sort of splitter cable, to draw power in 2 accessories out of the same lemo output?
As long as the two combined accessories don't draw more than the module can deliver (3,8A) a splitter should work.
And there is the +1 module too.

Yes Maik, I thought about the +1 module of course, but I'm all about keeping things small and lightweight.

When it comes to amps, volts and watts, I'm easily confused. I believe (if I read correctly) a monitor like the AC-7 from small HD draws 1.5A. Is it safe to assume that most of AC monitors around will draw a similar amount of power?

As far as the Follow Focus motors and receivers, the info is harder to find. So I did some approximative math and I think it should work.

Their is always the option to power the AC monitor from its own batterie system: you're adding weight to the system, like with the +1 module, but with the advantage of preserving RedVoltsXL for the brain and WFF only.

I'm still debating whereas to go with this module or a V-mount option.

I would go with the Quickplate Module if only it had the option to screw directly into the brain (like a reversible switch plate).

Nice, Bob! Let us know how it is!

Just wanted to give a shout out RED on the build quality of this new module. It's nothing like the other modules. The finishing and heft has to be held to appreciate. Love the new boxes too!
BTW, the weight of this new module is 421g.

I love this module in concept however I hope you release a v2 in the not too distant future with:

- PTap
- A smaller AC/DC adapter (The REDVolt travel charger is less than half the size of the RED AC brick. I love this feature, very clever... but I would prefer to not take the AC brick for charging).
- Power through the module pins.

Power does go through the module pins.

As for P-tap, I don't think Red will ever put P-tap on anything. Jarred has been pretty clear that he just thinks it's lame.

Oops, I was confused by the power cable running into the module in the photo. My bad. So one down. ;)

What's lame is a $100 LEMO cable for every accessory. :P
