  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Reduser has become a warzone! And no longer a helpful forum..

Ruben and Sheri - It seems like, with this thread, you are opening up a discussion about how and why people react to certain types of postings. If that was your intent, then allow me to post my own impressions of your approach. If that was not your intent, let me know and I will promptly delete this so as not to derail whatever it is you are attempting to accomplish.

To me - just my opinion - it seems like some of the folks who have joined in the last couple of months - yes, you are the poster children - want to treat REDuser like Twitter or Facebook; posting idle thoughts on a daily, maybe even hour to hour basis. As I previously characterized it - with an attempt at humor - the "if my scarlet were a pizza, what kind of pizza would it be" posts.

Now, it is not my place to say that one cannot do that, but it is not the way I have experienced REDuser over the last 2+ years and I, personally (again, my opinion only) find that it makes REDuser not only more cumbersome, but less valuable. Now, if the common feeling around here is to encourage and support that sort of (what I consider) frivolous and exasperating stream-of-consciousness posting, then that is certainly where the forum will head. The culture will adapt to the trends and the majority behavior will drive the direction. If that happens, peronally, I will probably frequent RU less, simply because it ill be too hard to wade through the chatter to the valuable stuff. But, that matters only to me...

Have you considered using Twitter? I have 3 Twitter accounts, a Facebook account and a LinkedIn account to stay connected with the stream of consciousness of my friends, connections and the world at large. I love those communication tools for what they are. It just doesn't seem to me that REDuser needs to, or should, become a substitute for those tools. If most of the thoughts you post here on REDuser were on Twitter instead, then I'd probably be inclined to "follow" you. But, at least I'd know what I was looking for and expecting when I monitored my Twitter account; and it's NOT what I'd hope to get here. So, if you were looking for opinions and reactions to this somewhat dramatically titled thread, you now have mine.

I really don't enjoy these post about threads that are about posts, etc, etc, all folding over on one another until the substance of the forum is lost. So, I'll close at that and going forward, simply try to monitor the "New Posts" for thread relevant to my upcoming Scarlet delivery and general cinematography education, and maybe, if things get bad, I'll try the "ignore" button, as some have suggested, and see if I, too, can salvage the REDuser experience that I have enjoyed for these past couple of years.

And, before I forget, wouldn't this thread have been much more appropriate in the "Off Topic" section or some such? Then, those who just want Scarlet information wouldn't have to wade through this... just a thought.

Hello Terry. I actually agree with much of what you say. Umm... yeah, you're dead-on. :)

Also, this thread does indeed have nothing to do with Scarlet. +1 on having it moved to "Off Topic."

V. interesting discussion.

Just two general notes:

a) We moderators do not (and cannot) view every single thread (our only payment is 3 free t-shirts, and even that is only hear-say), so we tend to read the ones that interest us plus the ones that sound troublesome. All of us moderators are Red One/Epic owners, thus Scarlet threads tend to be less frequented by us.

b) When someone writes a personal attack or in other ways is out of line, best protocol is to 1. not write a reply 2. use the
report.gif
button on the bottom left of the post to alert us moderators. Attacks are dealt with swiftly and lead to an automatic ban (temporary or permanent).

Thank u sir=)

This is bizarre. Thanks Terry for attempting to get us back on track. Unfortunately this is the beginning of the end, we are dealing with a generation who have been told everything they think and feel is valid and should be listened too and their cupboards are full of participation trophies.

For f**k sake someone put a stop to this nonsense or ban me from this place because I don't have the will to stop reading because this used to be a forum where 95% of the discussion was incredibly useful.

Couldn't agree more. Deleting this ENTIRE THREAD will immediately up the forum's usefulness quotient. I also had never frequented the SCARLET forum until I actually placed an order for one (I'm also waiting for the EPIC X Stage 4 to open up) and wish this forum had more of the relevancy that the other EPIC related and RECON forums have.

Well in all fairness to the OP, the title of the thread is accurately descriptive. If you weren't interested in fluff then there was no need to wade through it, or waste your time. Simply scan the title and move along.

If we truly wanted to limit posts to useful and practical information, most of us argumentative types would have to join the tweeters and bugger off as well.

Where's the fun in that?

yikes didn't mean to piss off anyone sorry... can't even do an apology or anything without once again someone getting mad.....It was relevant to Scarlet forum because this is where we have encountered most of the problems but once again sorry didn't me to piss anyone off, can't believe you ppl would get mad about someone addressing problems we have seen and an apology and saying goodbye to good friends on here, sorry once again feel free to close this thread but if anything this proves our point on you can;t say anything without someone getting pissed...

oh puh...leeez, its always been a warzone – a fun filled, action packed, pixel arguing, much debated and helpful and annoying warzone

It gets more bizarre as it moves along. There are so many new people joining in the last few months that have no idea of how the last 3 years of waiting and speculation have been. Now that finally, after so many years, it has been established what Scarlet is, how much is going to cost and is already being manufactured, everybody can face their reality and move forward to either get one or get something else. The reality is that you need access to almost $20k to get a working Scarlet with decent lenses. If you do, fabulous, if you don't, then you don't need to be part of the conversation, one way or another. You don't really have to announce to the world you are retiring from the forum, just don't participate. Read it for any new info then move along. When you can get the camera then become part of the active conversation and share your experiences. That's what I am going to do. Maybe by the end of next year I will be able to get the money together for one, maybe not, in the meantime I will become an observer, that's all.

Nice way of telling us to shut up until we get a camera LOL sorry once again for upsetting ppl..

You know what? I think we are all a bit antsy to get those Scarlet's in our hands... ;)

Ok, you are right. Its just a tragedy when sometimes good information gets hidden in these threads. I had to check it once the RED TEAM logo popped up next to the thread title and I suppose the info about how the moderators work etc., was a good-to-know. Certainly enough to pass the time while waiting for the real deal to arrive at my doorstep. ;)

Carry on, RED Users!

It seems to me that all the hostility and unuseful threads are being generated in the Scarlet section. Still, there are some that I have found useful. Nevertheless, I find myself wandering more than often in the EPIC section, just because most of what is being discussed there can be translated to Scarlet. There, they seem a happy bunch. I guess it also tells us something of the fact that Jim has been notoriously absent since the 3rd of november, addressing only a few issues. I feel it is a deliberate way of saying "calm down".

Did you even look at page 2?

We have been busy getting Scarlet out.

It sounds like a deliberate way of saying "We have been busy..."
