Heres a quick lesson for ALOT of the complainers, who are upset with price increases..

Your Currency (most likely anywhere you live, except maybe China)
is worth crap.

yet the cost of making parts is still where it was..
in order for the crap dollar to pay for these same parts.. they have to charge more now..
2006 =
1 crap dollar buys 1 camera
2009 =
4 crap dollars buys 1 camera

You can thank the world idiots for this.
Fiat Currency doesnt last.. and will continue to fall until it explodes.

I went to buy a burrito yesterday...
last week it was 2.95
yesterday it was 3.90

So you say that inflation was 400% in the last 3 years? Interesting!

Zakaree, also you failed to identify what type of burrito. :willy_nilly:

HHHmmmmmm.....

Baja Fresh burritos.....

Wouldn't the increased R & D time also contribute to raised prices for the lower-end Scarlets? Also, what about all of the development of RED freebies (firmware updates, Redcine-X, etc)? Surely the cost of developing/supporting those things should factor into the prices as well.

The question I have is, if a lot new features are being added across both model lines, does that translate into raised prices across the board (Scarlet and Epic - all models)? Or just the Scarlet line? Obviously not talking about the Epic-X here...

It will certainly be interesting to see what happens in the coming months.

I guess my point is lost..
I know dollar isnt based on GOLD.. in real life..
but its SUPPOSE to be.. its fiat, but my point is.. it will never recover.
so with that said.. expect everything to increase in price, from here on out..

Burrito = Las Golondrinas .. which is an amazing little mexican restaurant in south orange county..
one in lake forest, one in laguna niguel, one in san juan capistrano, one in capo beach, one in san clemente... delicious

Felix.. Im not a real economist.

this was basic and not to scale.

however gold did go from 300 bucks to 1300 bucks.. since 06... so???

More like 550$ to 1050$. And that is not just due to inflation but also gold becomes more valueable because it is harder to obtain.

(Countdown updated)

It's funny how Gold has become the topic of this thread but since that had something to do with the economy and Red cameras have a look at these articles and tell me how much you want to dive into gold.

That's what I say. You can't judge the inflation on a single sample item (or two considering the burrito).

RED's price increase is probably still pretty fair considering the inflation, the economical crisis and the longer development period (which will even give us more functions). Thus Zakaree's initial reason for his "little rant" has a point...

Scratch Gold..
ill just use burritos for examples..

burrito last week cost 2.50 this week 3.50
camera last week cost $ this week $$
no big deal (well it is.. but blame the elite bankers). its happening all around us

Well but the price change at your burrito maker of choice might not only be due to the dollar being worth less burrito but also because Mr. Burrito maybe sells less burritos (less people working and having less money) and then he has to earn more per Zakaree's lunch to pay for his rent and his employees.

All I say is, I don't think that the price increase will be drastic, more like mild... like Jim said.
(And think about 2.50 for a burrito... we spend way to few money on our groceries... basically we eat trash)

All this burrito talk is making me hungry. Zakaree, looks like I need to buy you a burrito at Las Golondrinas ;)

I don't think the price jump will be that large either as Jim did say small increase but it seems like they are packing a lot more features into the camera than we expected so I'd say this price increase is more from feature additions than the price of the Dollar vs the Euro, vs the Yen, vs Gold.

Martin - really? Hmm, maybe we should open up a Chronic Tacos over there - might be a good business venture. Or maybe a free burrito with every Red rental?
