  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redrock microMatteBox shipping news

i did sign up for the mattebox... though i never got to know what number i am on the list... i do get the updates though. which makes me wonder if i am or not on the list.

Do I miss something?

We are still targeting a summer release (though towards the end of summer) and a target price for the base configuration at $500.

will the mattebox be available also as 5x5 or 6x6?
in that case i would order, 4.5 is to small for most of our angenieux zooms.

I too am a bit confused about my place on any list. I keep getting emails about your offerings and then when I click and go to the web site I am not sure what I should do or how to order it. And when I can expect to get one.

I am ready to buy, but not sure how to do it? Please excuse me if I am not seeing the obvious :-)

Looks like the base price is still $500. According to the email Redrock sent out to the reservation holders, you can get the mattebox with a matte, 2 rotating stages, 2 filter holders and a 15mm swing away arm for just $595. That's a heck of a deal if the quality is anywhere near as good as we all hope it will be. Even if you order the mattebox with the RED package, it is still under $800.

Give them a break. They are trying to get us a $5000 Arri Matte box equivalent for 10% or so of the price. They are still in development too. If they have to charge us 20% the price of the ARRI, it's still a bargain to me.

The quality of the unit is so important in the long run, if they have to add a hundred bucks, fine with me as long as the quality is there with it.

You're joking... Right?

They said "about $500" and "ballpark $500" for the base package right from the start. If you think this is "ugly marketing" or deceptive, then all I can say is... don't buy it.
 
I think most would be willing to pay $2,000 for it.
 
Personaly, when I ask 5000 for a job, at the end of the job I take 5000... but anyway I will puchase one.

Yes, I am sure we all do.

But manufacturing a product for mass production is not a job - it's like committing to thousands of jobs where there are many unknown variables, so it's not as simple.

I would give Brian more slack and be happy he is on the forums. It's feels like I'm buying something from a friend and want to see him do well.

ugly marketing is charging you 500 dollars they promised by cutting corners and giving you something worth much less. If you have been following this thread, you would know that Brian and Redrock have been listening to us and making changes based on feeback. I have not seen the mattebox but i am confident it will be well worth the wait and price

Citizen K - To be fair, since we originally announced the targeted $500 price announcement we added or enhanced the microMatteBox in the following ways:

all metal construction (from plastic)
greatly improved filter trays that include spring-loaded filter holders (from plastic filter holders)
All stages rotate (vs. just one in the original spec)
A swing-away arm

I would say that's a pretty good deal for an extra $95. I am a bit hard pressed to call that "ugly marketing" - I would hope you think we are being responsive to your input and offering a pretty incredible deal for all those improvements.

I think if you're gonna cry over $95, you're in the wrong field/hobby. You're making this comment on a site, which is home to a $17,500 camera body that is comparable to a $250,000 camera. Red Rock Micro and Red are two companies that are spending TONS of energy and money trying to get independent filmmakers and studio filmmakers the same quality tools to produce media at revolutionary price points. Most Americans my age spend more than $95 at Starbucks in a month.

Damn venti decaf mocha! And those sausage sandwiches!!! Actually up here in the Bay Area, Starbucks is second to Peet's. Long live Peet's!
