The question was - what is the advantage of REDRAY? : nobody is questioning that content sells for a variety of reasons - including of course a great story.

The key advantages REDRAY has over other delivery methods absolutely inclides pristine image quality. It's not an "us v's them" attitude or statement.

All we're saying is that "Big screens aren't going away, as some have 'predicted' they would. They will only get bigger, and everyone will have one. The point RED and Odemax have been making is that the market for 4K delivery was coming and we chose to be the ones to usher it in, while everyone else was trying to delivery big movies to little devices."

I'm not sure I want to own stock in a big movie exhibition chain right now. Good thing this was announced on a Friday after the stock market closed. On the other hand, there may be new small-theater-size corporations gearing up right now.

Actually, this is the perfect time to own a movie theater. Odemax and REDray are announcing a solution that supports the theater and home markets that creates a way to work together. Will announce this aspect of the Odemax delivery model soon.

Never, ever say "never", especially where technology is concerned and especially when what you're saying will "never" happen already has, for many, many people, especially those under 25.

Good point. That's why with REDray and Odemax, classic films can now be scanned in 4k and delivered to the home in 4K. This is not just about a means to deliver digitally originated content, but a digital delivery system that supports classic film as well.

Are you still able to send a theatre or anyone with a RedRay player a USB stick with your film on should you wish to save 20% by not going the ODEMAX route? Is the encryption available on the RedRay or is it only via ODEMAX?

You can try to save 20% by not going with Odemax to manage the accuracy of the Box Office, handle your own licensing, build your own site, CDN delivery system, built in scheduling... but I'd imagine you'd be spending more than 20% of the gross receipts. If you wish to send a Flash disk of your movie, and it's encrypted as an Odemax asset, the DRM can still be managed online, to unlock that asset to any time you wish. Otherwise, you'll be creating a new asset everytime you change the viewing rules of who and when a movie can be seen.

Not the best analogy. SONY ruined Betamax by keeping it CLOSED. VHS won because it was OPEN and licensed to many players hence was cheaper and mass consumer adoption is usually driven by price.

lLaser Disc was unable to compete on cost, but remains a preferred pristine image quality system for videophiles. That simply was ahead of its time.

Finally, we have the ability to disseminate information infinitely faster and to more people than anytime in history with this invention called the INTERNET and Social networking...

What Redray has done is enabled me to shoot in any 4K camera (Sony, Canon, Red, etc) and encode to a 4K player - moreover Sony appears to be making the Betamax mistake...AGAIN by keeping their 4K delivery system exclusive and closed to SONY.

Going to the movies is a cultural phenomenon, especially in the Unites States... and we so love our entertainment that will watch the same movie we saw in the theater a month later on our iPad when it comes out in that medium

No. Initially, that was the case but they switched to flash media for longevity. The REDRay disc was a jab at Blu-Ray by saying "Hey, no need to go Blu when a regular DVD will do!!" cause DVD is still cheaper than Blu and would work fine with the codec.

Sometimes I think you just like to argue

The word he used was REPLACE. TV screens have only been getting bigger. I grew up watching a TV around 20 inches. I've had a 60" plasma for like 2.5 years. What's the average size TV now? 42"? I remember when I was a kid the neighbor got a 32" Mitsubishi tube TV and everyone in the whole neighborhood thought it was amazing.

People will continue to watch movies on their iPhones and iPads, but these devices won't turn televisions into museum pieces. TVs will continue to get larger and the picture quality will continue to improve.

I sorta disagree. That is, if you consider movie clubs, church groups, bars, other language groups, (sex clubs?) etc. as home screens I guess I agree. But if these are group-movie venues then I believe people will come together with like-minded individuals to watch content they enjoy together.

Personally, I think drive-in movies will be making a comeback... or at least outdoor movies with seating on the ground kinds of things.

Once people become familiar with this technology and service, they will find ways to use it that any of us probably haven't considered yet.
