  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Will there be firmware upgrades?

1. Is this 60fps and 3D and 4K all at the same time? Eg will you be able to get The Hobbit playing at 48fps, in 4K, in stereo... at home? Or is it like 24fps 4K or 48fps 2K or something?

2. It says "color space 709"... so then how do I author content that would take advantage of the wonderful color gamut of a laser projector?

ODEMAX-related:

1. In order to have DRM-protected content, we need to go via ODEMAX, right? Otherwise, if we're wishing to forego DRM I imagine we could always just sell it as a download. Right?

2. I'm sure this varies - but for the indie filmmaker, how much of a cut does ODEMAX take? What is the fee structure? Are things curated? How do rentals work?

3. If a customer buys something on ODEMAX can they also watch it (not in 4K) on their home computer, their Xbox, their Android phone, etc...

HDMI 1.4 only supports 4K at 24 fps. How then does it transmit 3D video at 48-60 fps?

The specs say it can do 4 x HDMI 1.3. Can it also do 4 x HDMI 1.4?

So, a theater can book the film and pay by the head?... or is it a set price?
 
More ODEMAX:

- what about free distribution of content? is that possible?

- is there an age verification check when starting a movie?

- is it pay per view, "buy once view forever" or subscription fee?

- what about movies that won't be available on odemax? any chance to play those?

- are all the big distributors in?

thats up to you.... You choose to make it open.. or closed. You can also use Odemax in the sneakernet fashion as well.. using it to narrow down playback to just you and your friends box... just in case you get mugged on your way to your friends house.

Im telling you.. this is pretty powerful stuff. Alot of " why didn't anyone do that before " moments.
 
So if you are just looking to distribute via ODEMAX you don't necessarily need the RedRay player, you could do it via pc? How is the 3D handled, is it 4k per eye, is the data rate different from 2.5MB/s?

So, you could push early cuts of a film to people involved in the production (producer, director, post house, sound mixer, composer, etc) and only they can access it? Can you set it to delete or become inaccessible at a certain date?
 
If anyone can make a channel, what is going to keep the quality up. If there isn't mainstream content what is going to drive consumers? I guess Vimeo has some curated content via staff picks. Anyway, when a platform is full of junk it can make it hard to connect with the good content.

this is very cool Jarred. Well done to you and the team for putting this all together.

Where can we get more info on ODEMAX, like pricing, screens that are on board and the in and outs of the system?

Multi-port output with 1.4 allows the full performance of REDRay @ 4K if the display supports it. REDRay slices up the video and puts out parts of it over different ports where it is re-combined by the display device. HDMI 2.0 will bring that down from 4 to 2 HDMI cables if the preliminary specs we have now are correct.
