  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDONE Collaborative Free Training- LOS ANGELES

While I can only offer food and snacks at the event, I can do a bit more after.

What footage I get, I can encode, mux and offer an ISO image. With this you can burn onto a DVD-R and playback 1080p in any HD DVD player. I am currently unable to mux BD at this time. This will give everyone at least one method of viewing the HD content.

If there is room for two more Id like to attend along with another DP friend who is interested the Red. Let me know if you need any lights (HMI's, Kinos, Tungsten) and grippage. Looking forward to just seeing one of these cameras in person.

I will bring my Canon L primes and 16-35 L II no doubt, but we do need the collaboration from Birger for the mount in order to test the Canons, Master Primes and Cookes s4 i would be great to have and you already have set up for the super speed so fantastic.

Sounds like you've got tremendous interest and offers of all kinds of material and personnel - I wish everyone the best! What I'm curious about is how this kind of collaborative event will be organized and run on the day-- how does all this come together?

We plan to have a couple cameras set up at fixed sets. There are three seperate spaces for this. One volunteer is negotiating with a local video assist company to bring out an HD video assist machine with a monitor to see how the RED fits into the normal set workflow (particularly with regards to video assist). I believe his goal is to design a flawless on-set workflow with RED. Everyone will benefit from that.

Several have volunteered their lenses, so we'll have a better understanding of how they respond to the red.

I intend on having several editing stations. Where people can see what happens after the footage is shot. Last week I witnessed how easy it was to move the data off the camera on a CF card- CF card to card reader- copied to Imac- trasncoded on RedAlert to Proress. I believe 3.5 GB took 1 minute. At the same time in RedAlert a still Tiff was printed out for Focus check, that took seconds. The proress was then dropped on the timeline of FCP. Very simple.

5 volunteers are bringing their Macbook pro's with FCP, one is bringing his Avid Media Composer on a PC.

RPM post will demo footage shot, edited, and color corrected previously on their 2K theater. As well as a demo on how we got were we did.

As there are nearly 60 attendees things will happen in shifts. From Seeing how best to utilize the RedOne, to helping to download cards, view images, and hopefully play with live image manipulation on set, to viewing the CC on Color, Scratch demo on 2K.

We ran into a small bump, but everything is being resolved. We look forward to having a great informative day, enjoyed by all on Oct. 6.

Regards,

Vladimir Eugene

I am very interested. Can bring a Diva 400 (basic interview kit), if useful.

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in participating in the event, but unfortunately, we are beyond capacity at the moment. Hopefully there will be many more events as we've seen the demand is strong.

Vladimir

Vladimir,

Thanks so much for all the work you did organizing this event.

Big ups to the folks at RPMpost, as well as Tom and the other folks from Red who showed up.

Oh, and of course, much gratitude to the Red owners who brought their cameras and let us touch them, and answered our questions, and shared their experiences.

Good show. Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved. It was very hands on and informative for all. I appreciate all the feedback, ideas, creativity expressed. I promise all thoughts and energy passed to me today will be projected into whatever progress possible.

Yes, thanks, Vladimir, for setting the whole thing up. Thanks to those who brought their cameras and also to Lucas for a nice demonstration of Redcine and Scratch.

Thanks a ton Vladimir. And to all the camera owners. And Ted and Sean from RED. And the boys at RPM Post for the awesome experience viewing on the 2K projector.

It was great to meet so many of you. I learned a ton, and can now share this knowledge with others in Canada. And continue designing my digital workflow truck.

What an amazing day for me.

Ditto. What a total day of fun. Everyone was fantastic. It was great meeting people from Reduser and the good people from RPM Post and Red were wonderful. Relaxed, friendly, confident and unassuming.

It was great seeing everyone so secure and happy with pushing the envelope - people were running around trying out beta Birger mounts, beta RedCine demos (with in-person performance from Luki!), impromptu 72fps cropped stuff pushed to 2000ASA shown on the projector... etc. By the way, nice screening room / grading pad, RPM.

Anyway, the confident, relaxed, "nothing to hide" attitude was really there in spades. We all got lots of time to play with cameras, lenses, etc and if people had suggestions (even critical ones) they were noted with a gracious smile. So far, Red is playing the part of polite, humble, amiable top dog cinema newcomer with great aplomb. And that niceness was very much to be found in the Redusers too. Not sure if I qualify on the niceness front... but the good people who brought all of the cameras and gear sure do.

It was a real honor to be there. Thank you Vladimir.

Hey Vlad,

great meeting you today and thanks again for the invite it was a pleasure been arround the great group of people that gathered at the event.

I see again RED as revolutionary as ever, Jim is sure to know that He and RED have a great asset with Ted, great guy, great attitude, and His energy allways is contegiuos, proud again to be a REDservation Holder.

Great meeting the people from RPM post.

Thanks to all the RED camera owners that let me play with them especialy Manny with #41, the Birger people also deserve a thank you for supplying the mount which made my L canon lenses shine on RED, more tests will be do for sure but I'm confident that EOS with Birger are now a great option to PL lenses.

Vladimir,

I want you to know I enjoyed the entire event. Cheers for all the effort required to pull it off. Truly appreciated.

I have to send out props to All the guy's who donated there time and equipment..... Our very own redusers, John, Manny, Ketch, & Bruce..... Ted & Sean from Red. The RPM guys, terrific hosts. Lucas and all the others who pitched in.... Thanks!

Community is the best way to describe the event. And I have to say I am blown away by the generosity, fellowship and good will the RED community radiates..... And I'm proud to call myself a member.

Can not wait to see the Tests!

Finally, meeting so many redusers in person was the icing on the cake.

Let's do it again.

Hey Sam,

it was a pleasure for me to bring my gear and I enjoy meeting everyone there and seen the generosity of the RED owners, as well as to begin with those that organized and hosted the event, great spending time with you at lunch, we will do it again and remember when you get your camera fill free to give me a call you can used any time.
