  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDLINK APP now in ITUNES Store

So just to make sure that I'm understanding this, you are not able to connect with the camera from your android phone directly without some other hardware, is that correct?

You basically need a router?

That's correct. You can plug the gigabit Ethernet port on the bottom of the camera to any gigabit router. Or use the REDLINK BRIDGE which allows wifi connections either through ad-hoc mode (no other router required) or in infrastructure mode (connecting both the camera and phone to a wireless router). Alternatively the Android app also supports a wired serial connection to the camera (using a USB to serial cable on the phone.

The REDLINK iPad application has been updated to version 1.1

What's New in Version 1.1
-Added ability to create/import/export REDCINE-X look files (.RMD)
-Added lens control feature
-Added Panels feature
-UI updates
-Bug fixes

A question on the redlink. Wouldn't it make sence tomake it so that it can be connected as the middle part of a camera setup, as well as beeing the back module?
I for one would like to use v-mount batteries on the end, but I'd have to go through a crazy expensive quad module+batteries+charger upgrade just to be able to use the redlink.

Or am I getting it wrong?

Can you contol audio with the app ?. It works great, super easy just plug and play, it would be the most amazing unit if it showed some small image and the vlock issue is a pain.

Cheers
Ian

Does anyone have instructions on how to set redlink app up to my scarlet x and Ipad? I enable dhcp in network menu of my camera and tried to enter my cameras ip address into the redlink app box but it gives an connection error message please ensure that specified IP address belongs to your camera. My ipad is connected to my wireless router as well.

Are you using ethernet or REDlink module ?

If using ethernet with lemo cable yes dhcp should allow your camera to get an IP address from your network router then the iPad app will be able to discover the camera.

If using the REDlink bridge you need to connect to your wifi network in infrastructure mode in the wifi tab (FW 5.2.x beta required)

Manual IP address field is useful only to connect to a camera across the internet but for local network cameras it should not be needed...

Thanks Trent.

Does the REDLINK APP work with the Hotlink? I do have the hotlink and foolcontrol and it's awesome, but's nice to have options....

It should. I don't think the auto discovery will work though since the Hotlink doesn't implement our UDP based discovery method. I believe foolcontrol has modified the discovery process to work with the Hotlink.

Exactly. Any application that supports the RCP protocol will work with the HOTLINK - you just have to enter the HOTLINK's IP address manually into the app first. Mikael put a hook in FOOLCONTROL that automatically look for, and discovers HOTLINK or HOTBOX.

Would be soooooooo cool to integrate the Adapter module and the Redlink bridge. Smh. That would be soooo freaking simple.

This is not just a mechanical rehousing exercise. I don't recommend people attempting to do this themselves so they can attach module behind the REDLINK BRIDGE; there is a reason we don't pass through the electrical connections. Luckily there are solutions available for those who want the REDLINK functionality and battery modules attached to the back of their camera (i.e. Hotlink or Hotbox).

Sorry to revive an old thread but I'm curious as to what the benefits of foolcontrol are over this ipad app?

I looked, but I couldn't find a comprehensive list of the differences between the two apps.

I'm pretty sure the foolcontrol focus abilities are unique to that app, but beyond that I don't know.

Thanks in advanced for any advice!

Both our iPad application and foolcontrol use the same RCP API to control and setup the camera. Both can do basic setup of the camera, control look settings, control playback, and provide access to about 90% of the menu tree (through the API).

The major differences are going to be in UI design, workflow, presentation, etc. Mikael has done a tremendous job with foolcontrol and people love using it. He has spent a lot of time, in particular, on the focus control aspect of his application. He presents the user with a virtual focus wheel, allows creating rack points with programmable rack speeds, etc. In contrast, we have a slider.

Our iPad app generally will have newer API features sooner as we work on it in parallel with the camera firmware development, but foolcontrol usually has the new major features in before the firmware goes from Beta to Release.

Our iPad app is free, so there is no risk in trying it out to see if it fulfills your needs. There are plenty of videos of people using foolcontrol if you want to get a feel for what it offers. I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about foolcontrol - everyone who uses it seems to love it.
