What this sounds like to me is the new camera concept is WEAPON, which too me means total camera upgrades are a thing of the past. In the future there will be a Frame which will be multigenerational. With the red Frame, modules can be added or subtracted based on what is best to tell the story. This new FRAME will be a standard that will support 2d still, 2d motion, 3d motion, Xd motion, 16mm sensors to 645 sensors, 24p to Xp frames based on the cpu, network broadcast for all the modes, and a ton of stuff which is only limited by the creativity of red users.

Appreciate the candid discussion and all the feedback.

The name is here to stay.

There are some of you with genuine security concerns and for those that would prefer we will be offering a "stealth" Weapon without the Weapon branding engraved on it... simple check box at the time of order.

Sweet solution and very generous and customer friendly I might add!

Stealth option such a good solution. I am still going non stealth and will just gaff tape it up when in sketchy places or when flying into Canada. They contain the biggest customs bullies I have yet to encounter.

My hat is off to RED for taking everyone's concerns into consideration and offering helpful and meaningful response.

As an aside, I sort of like the name "Stealth." (I know, I know, it was a U.S., military bomber.) It would look good on the side of the camera.

It's not stealth if it says "Stealth". The whole point is not to have a word that may be interpreted in a way that gets a weapon aimed at you.

Sort of tongue-in-cheek, Scott. I'd argue that it could say "Stealth" without the same quick interpretation as "Weapon" but I neither expect it that way, nor really want it. I just like the name better.

And time and again... RED continues to "AMAZE" with the absolute show of interest to PLEASE as many end users as possible...

Now all of those that DON'T like the "WEAPON" name can have a "NO NAME" RED Camera... Hope they'll be happy now... As for me... I'll be sporting with great PRIDE the name "WEAPON"... :)

You just want all those women you shoot to know what your packing.

The "stealth" versions will likely have minimal markings and perhaps just the Red logo, and that might even be discreet.

Though I personally think whatever the various Weapon versions are they should be designated on the body somewhere with a "W" and whatever else is needed to help identify the cameras.

Thank you, Jarred! This is great option that I very much appreciate you offering. I am looking forward to upgrading. I'm very pleased with the images I'm getting out of my current epic M dragon, and am excited to see what's coming next. Keep up the great work.

Best,
Adam

why do I have a sense that with REDs styling even those who don't mind the name are going to have a hard time not seriously considering the stealth from a sheer design esthetic, like a naked bike or straight black matte finishes on so many items we love.

I think your "sense" is accurate. :-)

I'm hoping the stealth option is all flat black and carbon with no chrome or white lettering or shiny bits at all. A total black-out option would be sweet. :)

Flexibility, open-mindedness, and modularity at it's best. Bravo.

+1

My thoughts exactly!

"I could press your face in some dough and make gorilla cookies."

I've made a gorilla cookie or two with my old Pentax. Not so many in the last decade or so thankfully. ;-)

That's my favorite line of that whole show.

On a better note, glad the option for stealth is here.

Hey Terry, google stealth, hit images, then google, weapon, hit images and tell me what is more...ah...compromising. A picture is worth a thousand words, words that I might not get to use to explain what I have in my hands. Getting on the internet is no problem for people anywhere in the world. A couple clicks and you are toast.

Soooooo you got to the air port and they ask whats in the box, U say It's a Red Camera. End of story. Say they wanna take it out and "examine" it
and ask why does it say Weapon? You say I didn't make it I just purchased lol. If you don't like the name take it up with Jarred over at Red lol.
Because you can't say it's JUST a camera haha.

I was looking at the new follow-focus from Bright Tangerine and I don't recall anyone getting upset of its name or their marketing. Its the Revolvr and their tagline is "Your weapon of choice" so...

I was looking and getting a Mini Cooper last year and you can order a stealth version with no model name on the back. They also made a flat black version that was tempting. On the flip side, I really wanted Dragon engraved on my mini-mag module and at the time my camera was upgraded, they had not shipped the mini-module yet. I was persistent and Brent and Nick took care of me and got my mini-module engraved. I really appreciate their customer service.

Maybe RED can do a shirt, OR HOODIE, that has a play on Full Metal Jacket. The line about this is my weapon and this is my gun. I guess that would make the RED for pleasure. :)
