  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED WEAPON - Info and Data Sheets

Can Phil or anyone with a weapon answer how long the camera runs for on the XL Red volts?

Thanks

This is am interesting question. I think I read in the Weapon manual that it draws about 50 watts vs. the 60 watts by Epic/Scarlet. If this is accurate, we should get about 20% longer run times on the new bodies (I am assuming they are all about the same draw). It has been awhile since I timed an RV-XL but I think I was getting around 75 minutes on my Scarlet. All that said, I sure wouldn't mind having verification (or not) of those estimates.

Only the CF Weapon does 4k. The Mg Weapon does 2k like Scarlet-W.
Ahhh, thank you for the info. The Scarlet-W is my first venture into RED territory, so I didn't really dive into the technical details of the Forged/CF/Mg Weapon differences. I thought it was primarily materials/weight and delivery timing. Makes sense that they'd have some spec bumps, considering the price points.

I'm pretty sure one of the main features of all DSMC[SUP]2[/SUP] style RED cameras is the ability to record:

- REDCODE RAW
- ProRes
- Dual Record REDCODE RAW + ProRes

I can't imagine why it couln't just do ProRes straight like the other cameras.

Also, Jarred "hinted at" an additional codec being supported somewhat soon. I imagine this will be the same once that pops it's head up.

Still waiting to hear the announcement on that DNXHD

Adding a thing today.

I whipped up a RED DSMC[SUP]2[/SUP] Camera Line-Up One Sheet. This is a quick ways to see the difference between Weapon camera models and compare feature sets across the new DSMC[SUP]2[/SUP] cameras. I'll be updating this as relevant information arrives.

Feel free to download and share.

Thanx for that. It's great. We can really see how powerful is the new scarlet being so close to the weapon mg.
If I'm not mistaken, the scarlet-W can do 150fps @4k ws (Raven too, Brent confirmed here http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?136561-Announcing-RED-RAVEN/page61).

Thank you Phil! This really puts all the pertinent info in one place. You've made it easy to understand and compare.

Updated the RED DSMC2 Camera Line-Up One Sheet today.

Cleaned up some stuff, fixed some verbage, added the .5K resolutions for each camera.

There's still a couple things in there we don't know for sure just yet, like a couple of the 8K Weapon resolutions/formats max frame rates, but it's nearly there.

Phil I don't know what we would do without you.

Ha ha I promise you no matter how hard I tried or how big of an army I threw at it.... I wouldn't be able to match what he does.

Thank you sir.

You could always publish a recent photo of the dsmc2 sidehandle to catch up. Phil wouldn't be able to do that

Here you go :)

Update today as suddenly during the harvest season of NAB 2016 the RED Wizards have conjured a new firmware release to upload into our brains and suddenly we know Kung Fu. erm...

Or rather, we now have support for AVID DNxHD/HR (in the beta build for now).

So I've updated the camera one sheet reflecting that new feature.

I'm very curious to test out DNxHR HQX 12-bit at 4K and DNxHR 444 12-bit at 2K. Should be lovely.

Got a couple other things in the works post NAB. Stay tuned.
