If I match to chart I rarely use "automatic" as it's tied to values for a very specific gamma and color space. This is pretty much the biggest thing people get wrong with charts now as we have very, very wide gamuts and more tonal value.
Also, for the curious Medium/Soft is the general default R.709/BT.1886 output for RED's IPP2 workflow. Very Soft, Medium, and Hard Highlight Roll-Offs aren't bad, it's a matter of preference and likely tied to how you shot the scene.
Graeme was very clever with that Med/Soft Contrast/Highlight Roll-Off as it's a very, very good start for a scene referred workflow with a lot of flexibility for output. I've certainly made my own transforms now, but that one works great for monitoring as well as post production.
