The RED Control Pro App gives users advanced control over their V-RAPTOR™, KOMODO®, and multi-camera arrays. The Pro app offers advanced features and an enhanced experience, including native iPad support, multi-camera control, quick settings overview, FTP file access, advanced LUT, CDL, and PRESET management, or independent image orientation setting. The app is also fully redesigned for larger screens and monitoring of live streaming from several cameras simultaneously. RED Control Pro can be installed as a native version on MacOS, which includes even more options such as clip auto download, detachable and resizable windows.

There's a new Face Detect function that was just demonstrated in the app.
It seems that this is an in app stop gap solution until the functionality is built into the cameras.
Seemed to work well.
Very flexible interface.
I can understand the price considering how deep the program goes and how well it integrates and control multiple DSMC3 REDs.
It seems to be approaching a feature set found in DIT software.

Brian,

Yeah, I remember word of a big update for the Komodo coming in December so maybe that update will be able to work in conjunction with this Face Detection function. The ability to push live grades to the camera at far distances from the camera will be a big help and feature to DITs and others concerned with the look of the Red camera images out in the field.

Hey Rand,
Actually at the end of the Livestream Mikael mentioned that the free version of RED Control will also have this function and that it's slated for release in a couple of hours.
Face detection AF on a RED camera almost sounds surreal but seems like this is happening and very soon.

RED Control Pro sounds like a deep app for many things needed for camera management on set.

I see some experiencing some sticker shock when it comes to pricing. Considering that the basic RED Control is free and that the Pro version is aimed for higher end multicam sets, I would say the app is fairly priced.

Brian,

Unfortunately I haven't gotten a chance to watch the entire Live Stream because I was helping a friend change his oil in his Nissan, so I'll have to go back and watch it in its entirety. Yeah to have Autofucus capabilities in a Red camera will be great and yet another feature that will help Red maintain an edge on its competitors along with their price, workflow, compressed raw codec , internal Varible Nd system and other intuitive camera feature offerings.

sticker shock

Heh. I think when looking at the other solutions to control multiple cameras in such deep ways wirelessly or cabled even that stick shock turns into sticker relief. But I'm a grounded realist on this one. It's amazing what it can do for multi-cam shoots.

And yep. The Face Detect feature is coming to both the Pro and regular RED Control App. The app route does require the app to open and active on the device sniffing around for faces to autofocus and track on.

Kudos to Mikael. His little side project has turned into one of the best wireless control tools out there. I'm just imagining a 6X XL shoot and actually being able to handle all of those in realtime. 1st and 2nd AC things all optimized wirelessly. I saw that little Sync TC to OS feature in there. That's pretty awesome to do across multiple cameras.

Just to be clear :

- the TC to OS is not a way to sync TC with frame accuracy from the app unfortunately… it just lets you set the TOD TC to the system clock… so at best you are looking at a 1 sec accuracy. Hopefully one day we can do remote TC / GEN sync but not there yet.

- The Face Detect feature is a ‘stop gap’ in the sense that it was rapid to implement in app due to libraries available in modern mobile OS and plenty of processor power available in those devices… It can be helpful in cases where you have a solid connection to the camera.
Do not read it direct as a clue for any in-camera implementation incoming soon or being feasible at all … I do not have this info but we all know RED is always working on new features that will or will not make it to future firmwares and AF improvement in camera are not different… just do not hold your breath or read between the lines… it is a ‘stop gap’ as it will probably be disabled in app the day it can be implemented in camera… until then enjoy the new feature for what it is ;-)

Thanks for the clarification Mikael and thanks for all of the time you put into designing this excellent program!

Michael is it possible to get a connection with low enough latency to use RCP as the main monitor? I've heard of varying results based on antenna / iOS / hardware but never seen anyone say they have a bulletproof connection that they can frame + focus on.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a wireless access point for using Red Control Pro while on set.
Can you recommend me a brand/model powerful enough to handle the stream from 3 Komodo's?

Thanks

I got this one:
https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-mt1300/
and it handles four Komodo without problems at 5 GHz, with RED control pro on a Mac Mini. Latency is about the same as my bathroom mirror (0.23 s)
There are others like the Teradek Link and I assume it has no lesser connectivity but with the additional option of having a V-Mount.
