Cal Digit is making USB 3.0 cards for the aging Mac towers.. just be sure to keep up on new drivers. Wish Apple would come out with a new tower already....

Which specific USB3 cards/devices are fully compatible with the new USB3 SSD Reader on MAC Lion systems, which PCI-e or Express34 cards are recommended and known to work at USB3 speeds.
For PCIe, get the CalDigit 6GU3 card. It gives you two USB3 and two 6Gbps eSATA ports. I'm not sure which one to recommend for ExpressCard to USB3... Haven't used any recently.
How about today? should be in the store shortly![]()
Just thinking - will there be a USB3 station which you can put on the current stack for daisy chaining, same size as the current RED Stations???
)
You ain't lying, I hope these new thunderbolt enclosures can make use of the Rocket card I own, otherwise I need to buy an old tower unless it's not worth it, any advice Jarred?
Thunderbolt is great. it is awesome. but to date the adoption has been almost non-existent. The chipsets are incredibly expensive, ( i.e. expect to pay 2x the price for a REDSTATION ) the cables are incredibly expensive ( 10x as expensive as a Esata or USB 3 cable ) , and the power for portable devices is a bit sideways. I have no doubt that when it gets it's footing and someone actually really adopts it ( not sure why its taking so long ) it will be the go-to choice. Its just not there yet. USB3 is really kicking Thunderbolt's ass right now, even though thunderbolt is better setup for the future.
And I really don't understand the current Thunderbolt power thing. It is the reason why ESATA never really took off other than professional applications in my opinion. no power to the device. I was so damn excited to get my Lacie Thunderbolt Little Big Disk drive for my laptop.. but as soon as I opened the box and realized that i needed to plug it into the wall every time with a big wall wart ( something the Lacie Little Big drives never had to do in the past ) I threw it against the wall. Portable drives that you need to plug into the wall is just plain retarded.
I almost wish Firewire grew up instead of meeting its death ( or near death ).. i really think it was a great interface for many reasons.. it just never took the next step for speed.
So let us see if the PC guys (when the thunderbolt doors are opened to them) can make it a winner.. right now it is just not there yet.
I have switched over to the dark side unfortunately after many years of Mac.. took awhile to get through learning the whole windows thing but i gotta tell you.. i love the power.. and the the options. and the power. And the configurability. Did I mention the power?
I am falling in love with USB 3.
