  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket

Yeah in the last 2 years I've learned a lot about the limitations of GPUs.

Which is why 2009 is the year of the co-processors. :D

Hopefully in 2010 we'll see REDRocket2 with ASIC chips, 1/4 the cost and 4x the speed.

With all the changing schedules it will be great to see REDRocket 1 in 2010 - of course if RED can make 2009 so much the better.

COLOR REPRODUCED IN REAL TIME !!! I think I'm hysterical. :yikes:

PCI-X processor card?

Dear team, you make my day!!

The ball is in the AJA & BM side, this day we can post 12-bits 4k in realtime. YeoooooHHHHH!!!

Did I miss something where it was stated for a certaintly that the Rocket is FPGA based, and not ASIC based?

Seems that several recent posts seem to assume this... yet my initial thought is that it was likely that the Rocket would be a great way to amortize the R&D in the ASIC design being used in the Epc/Scarlet series...

Does anyone know when RedRocket will be available for purchase?

Don't tell me you havn't read the last 41 pages:Yawn:

2 Months… or so…

Emmanuel

It's PCI-E ...PCI-X is so 2003.

It hasn't been stated either way. I have no idea why people are making any such assumptions.

is there a sticky about what the red rocket is and does. Going through so many pages and posts is very frustrating. I would love a sticky about each annoucement with details. If it exists please excuse me and point me there.

This is more or less how Jean-Luc looks today.

HambourgGodard.jpg

This is a small camera (Beaulieu R16mm) that Godard was shooting with.

Tamron28-105f2-8_02.JPG

RED1 4K hand held camera with Tamron 28-105mm f/2.8 (18-70mm S35mm) zoom that also Godard could use for his movies.

Hello Sanjin,

Godard shoots with a 35-8 like camera, this means that today his camera is a Canon 5D MKII and many other full HD sub 1000$ cameras.

RED has to go a big way until they manage the 35-8 concept.

But now we seem to be getting something with the reliability of the Brains. Same hardware only with pixel magic flowing the other way. Loads more money, but rock solid.

If the Rocket can turn my octo 2.8 ghz Mac into a Red 4k/5k realtime editing machine, than 4k USD is nothing. This is a true step in the right direction. One day we will be able to manage RED without cards like the Rocket, but this is a way to trully bring democracy to the Red Workflow today.

For High End projects, this will not substitute for a top of the line grading and post-production facility, but for all medium to low end Red Productions, this is a true revolution! Good job, guys! Now Jarred, you say Epic end of Summer, so Scarlet S35 is still on schedule for the same period, right? :)

Did you try reading the first post of this thread? It's explains most of what we know so far...

Video Out Question

Video Out Question

So.. the Red Rocket outputs video through Quad DVI and Quad HD-SDI. What current monitors support such inputs for 4K display? Forget about the 4K display.. I just want to make sure that my next investment, upgrading my JVC 24" LCD to its current model, will work well with Red Rocket?

Best,

Best,

I know that RED RAY can downscale to 1080p, letting you use just one HDMI port (probably dual-link HD-SDI as well). I would assume that RED Rocket could do this also.
