  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket

REDrocket will do the scaling in realtime.

No extra burden on the GPU than what your favorite app would normally do for a RGB workflow.

wow that the best part,

I hope you really optimize it for final output mastering compression, ie from redcode timeline to 10 bit SD,, or SD, DVD

Kyle... this is likely the shot. And it is in the uncompressed as well.

Yes, I am 96.3% sure this is the shot (seeing trees and detail and such) that I saw. It does look like there is some weird stuff going on there still, though at that res its a little hard to tell exactly what it is. But if you say it's in the Uncompressed (or at least in the RC28/RC36 compressed) then it is what it is...

Nonetheless, I'll still be buying a REDRay when they are available... (unless of course, you want to send me one earlier than that!)

Back before you all knew about RED, the first demosaic I wrote was GPU based. Back then though, we could do more on the CPU, and the GPU wouldn't handle the size of the original Frankie frames. I reckon Rocket is the way forward as it leaves the GPU alone for what it's really good at, and it leave the CPU alone for what it's really good at, and does all the gnarly stuff in RT.

I guess going with FPGAs is not that bad... Universal Audio UAC-2 Quad cards work flawlessly with 4 chips onboard. ;)

But when I read through the specs of nVidia's next-generation hardware "GT300 going MIMD" and Intel's Larrabee... one must wonder is FPGA really beneficial once that "future GPUs" [or cGPU] start using MIMD-like instruction set.

Of course, if you're not going FPGA, accept apologies and disregard this as a rumor about Rocket-based hardware :couch:

i am doing pretty well mark.

i dont have to make debts to buy things

My sincere apologies - that came out wrong.

You know - what a good investment is depends on who your customers are - and what kinds of service they need and expect.

But your comment "nothing worth the price difference imho.
if you go high, go really high with the big toys in the $$$ $$$ range" - seemed like you were saying - if you want a "really high end solution" - then go with the "big toys that cost $$$ $$$$" and IMHO that is just a crazy statement.

I look at all the solutions, from Crimson to Quantel. I work hard to track stuff that isn't even out to market yet. I don't care so much about the LEGACY OF THE BRAND - so many solutions that are STANDARD will NOT be standard in a matter of a few short years.

So ... what I should have said is:

Just because the "big toy" has the legacy of an industry standard does not mean it will give you the best ROI.

Anyway, just wanted to let know I was not trying to insult you in any way. Sometimes I post after a cocktail or two - I need to stop that.

so we are cool again.
great.

irrelevant I know but anyone has an
idea for an approximate release date of
epic?
is 3 months a wishful thinking?

3 months unlikely. Still targeting the end of summer.

jarred, one last question then...
if you're releasing the camera end of this summer...
and I'm planning to shoot something in November...
would Epic be up and going by then?
I mean Red One took a while to be really stable,
do we need a similar amount of time for Epic, too?

thanks...

High five ibloom, This company listens and delivers ; )
Red rocket to the future!

heh heh... yeah we listen, you guys have great ideas (most of the time :) ) .

Not to steal Ian's thunder but this one we have been talking about internally since before even the Elgato Turbo came out :)

Maybe he gets first dibs on buying one? Or one of the first 50?

Even if he had nothing to do with the birth of the concept it might send the message that Red listens, and wants to keep listening to good ideas?
