  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

No worries... and please pass on to them just how much we all appreciate their efforts.

Thx Casey.. I just checked in on them as the alarm company keeps calling me wondering what's going on :)

Deanan and Bender just cracked open another bottle.. so all is well at 1:30am on a Sunday evening at RED..

Thank you Deanan. Thank you Bender. Thanks to the guy that pays their overtime.

Also thanks to you Jarred, I am sure you weren't there just to practice your photography.

BTW, lovely box behind the bottle. :)

Question about a potential workflow:

Will this card help achieve realtime playback of multiple 4K video streams in FCP (understandably at 2K)? I have an upcoming 3 camera shoot and it would be amazing to be able to use multicam functionality in FCP on the actual footage.

A side note... there's 60 pages in this thread now, which is just too much to read. Is there a decent summary anywhere of the specs and functionality of the card as it now stands?

I would vote for a released manual, that should say something about the card - even if we can't touch it yet.

But - as in real life - maybe the manual will be the last thing we can touch, because it may be the last thing to be done?

Cheers,
Axel

Manual? You're not from around these parts, are you? :-)

hey jarred did you remove the logo from the monitor? or is it unreadable beceaus its such a low resolution picture ? it seems to me like the logo was photoshoped. are these the prototypes of the 4k displays :D ;)?

Will this be launched at the same time as Redcine X? Will there need to be software support written in to existing programs to utilize this card?

Existing programs using the SDK should have support for Red Rocket very quickly after an SDK update is released, which should be quite soon.

Too bad my system doesn't have any free PCI-slots.
Sure wish it was a USB-interface instead :)

(more slots to the people!)

Correct... the SDK is actually coming very soon, and its up to the 3rd parties to do the relatively painless update on their side to add RED Rocket support.

The SDK and the RED Rocket will both definitely be out before the first REDCINE-X beta goes public.

data techs / video assists!!! a way to pay for a red rocket.

data techs / video assists!!! a way to pay for a red rocket.

I have found a good way to pay for some of my gear is to offer a dailies service for AVID or FCP edit houses. RED Rocket will make this ROCK

Since the edit house charges a arm and a leg to transcode files/ingest and they are closed up after most shoots wrap, I (video assist/RED Tech in milwaukee) am taking the footage and transcoding it on a new octomac 2009 overnight and dropping it off at the post house in the morning! (Time permitting I will tweak the rsx to get it closer to what the DP is going for.) Some post houses to not have the time or extra avid systems to do this.

When RED ROCKET comes out I will rackmount my tower and do this on set for a fee lower than the edit house ingest. This way one could quickly pay off the card and edit houses will get to edit instantly! I have seen plenty a on set rig with a tower at it's core. This RED Rocket could change things for the better.

Has there been any interest from Avid on this? I know it's unlikely but thought I'd ask anyway.

Yes, but we won't know what this can do until we see the SDK and that is not out yet.
