  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

You're dead right Carl, rendering out to R3D, aside from Red not allowing anyone else to write the codec, would mean a double hit at compression - and it's a big compression at that.

There is another way around this, between DPX and ProRes and that's BMD or Kona uncompressed 10 bit files. Smaller than DPX, easier to stream and playout with sync sound from a FCP timeline if you don't have a DVS or whatever. You still need a very fast array though. Let's face it, it's going to be years before anyone will be playing uncompressed 2k from their laptops.

I guess you didn't see the RED Reel #400 demonstration in Vegas this year. I didn't either, but half of it was very, very big compression, and nobody could see the difference between it and uncompressed 4K.

I'm really hoping that the RED Rocket will somehow help out with the REDCode RGB compression for the RED RAY codec.

Well, I don't want to write to Redcode 36, but with Epic we are going to see RedCode 100, 250 and so on. Maybe I'm assuming too much in thinking that we can expect lower bit rates and thus the ability to decode-recode.

When I saw redcode 250 on the Epic X I was really excited for that very reason. Maybe it's just wishful thinking as it's needed to support the higher frame rates.

Shane,

hey there, been awhile. Actually we showed this at the last demo in Burbank. YES your heard me. uncompressed on a laptop. we were showing both 8 and 10bit in realtime. Packed in a standard QT wrapper but we also do this in a DPX wrapping.

You will see buzz on this from SpectSoft over the next several months.

Cheers,
Ramona

cineform makes reference to 4k realtime on a laptop..

edit
pc side right

yes red rocket express card will do very nicely thank you very much or a version of red ray that can plugin to the express card socket since it'll have the decoding/debayering bits also

okay i have been shooting at the countryside of Ghana, red rocket will be a blessing since it will be out right when i get back.

its everything i ever asked for from red since scarlet, i am way too excited

Hey Red,

After reading the description on the Silverado Web site for the Red Rocket Card, it sounds like there is only DVI connectors on the card, and if you want to have HDSDI connectivity, you need to purchase the break out box. Can someone at Red confirm or deny that there are HDSDI ports on the card, or if it's only DVI.

Thanks
Colin
