  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE MX - Now Shipping on Demand.

RED One Bodies vs Epic Brains $ for feature will never be a fair fight.

REDOne was something of 'one off' product not specifically designed for mass production. It uses a lot of off the shelf hardware which costs a premium in large volumes.

Epic on the other hand is custom designed and manufactured specifically for its intended purpose. RED can finally get some efficiencies of scale. FPGAs aren't cheap.

People upset about the price increase need to get some perspective on what they are actually getting for their money. A camera that does everything the RED does with the backup support and constant development offered by the manufacturer.... for that kind of money IS outrageous. It's outrageously cost effective and inexpensive in comparison to anything else on the market.

Bang for buck the RED One is a nuclear weapon. Everything else is just firecrackers.

You'd do well to remember that next time you feel like complaining.

I know that a lot of you want to see the Epic released as soon as possible. :willy_nilly:

However, I think the exceptional quality of the M-X Red Ones, and their current availability, affords Red the opportunity to take their time in perfecting the Epic and Scarlet lines before their release.

Serve no wine before its time.

Should the Epic price model be closer to the Alexa? Arri doesn't seem bashful about asking for a much higher price than the Epic?

SSHHH Michael.. don't be giving Jim any ideas, he he.

No Epic is perfect were it stands, and part of what I trust its Huge Success will be is do to the Price point, and what it offers at this price point, not vs. competition since there is no competition to the Epic, as none of what is out and or announced has near capabilities to deliver what Epic does.

What is the current turn around time if I sent my Red One in tomorrow for MX upgrade. Three weeks is just a tough amount of time to loose my camera for.

Thanks,

Lately they have been smoking, turning around cameras in 7-10 Days, some times much less, but obviously it is not guaranteed...

in 10 years, we are going to be reading posts that read..

EPIC-X Anniversary Edition now shipping with the new T1000 Sensor . Sporting Over 100K lines of vertical resolution.. more real than real life and 100 Stops of dynamic range... even beyond what the human eye can see!

mind the hype

platonic love

more than shades for two years and beyond, soon is growing, be cool people

someone who has been budgeting for a RED One camera body this summer @ $17,500 should just suck it up -- even though the price went up 43% on the camera body overnight, without warning. And they should do so because "it's all professional, and the costs reflect that"?

Methinks you're not being entirely consistent or fair here.

Methinks you are starting to piss me off :)

The camera did not go up 43% overnight.. you are comparing a R1M to a R1MX camera.. two very different beasts.

We gave our existing customers an incredibly good deal on the sensor upgrade program.. that is because we like our customers.

But, we don't like the customers that try and tell us that we are ripping people off...

Doesn't the T1000 go back in time to kill John Connor?

I agree. What part of "everything is subject to change" is hard to understand?

Besides, if you really want an R1 non-MX, if you are a bit patient you can find one second-hand. There are not many, but there are some, and most people take very good care of their Reds.

The original RED One has been on sale for a few years, there has been plenty of opportunity to save up and plan for such a purchase. The times are changing, and the product line is shifting, and more affordable cameras are on the horizon, If someone was so urgently wanting an original Red One there are several for sale... what's all the fuss?

True. It's also 43% more expensive that the Red One with M that was sold just two days ago.

Not that I'm complaining, but it does -- for now -- raise the entry cost into RED by a lot. Once Scarlet ships, RED will once again seem cheap, but $25K for a camera body with no lens, no battery, no viewfinder, and no on-board recorder (among other things) isn't "cheap".

When the camera cost $17,500, it was still a stretch for many people but it was still -- IMO -- low enough that people felt like they *could* stretch and make it work. $25,000? Eh, not so much.

I think RED ONE and Epic can't exist together. OR RED ONE OR EPIC!
Because the approximately the same price with the best characteristics at Epic!
So RED ONE body - 25K! Epic body - 28K!
Accessories for both (Red drive, batterry ets) about 10K!
Lens for both for example 18-55 is about 10K!
So we have the ready to shoot package:
RED ONE - 25K (body) + 10K (accessories) +10K Lens = about 45K
EPIC - 28K (body) + 10K (accessories) +10K Lens = about 48K
Who will buy OPEL VECTRA for 45K if he can buy BMW X5 for 48K!

So I think after Epic will be realesed RED ONE will be take out of production as M-sensor after realesed MX-sensor!
