RED ONE M-X Sensor Upgrade Program

M-X Upgrade Bundle and Stage 2 Saves Me 3K

M-X Upgrade Bundle and Stage 2 Saves Me 3K

I might be late but as soon as I dished out the dough today for the RPPs plus 300mm (which saved me $4,200.00 as a bundle)
I realized I would definitely get the upgrade then go for Stage 2...which makes super perfect sense!

Here's why...
If I buy the MX upgrade bundle I'll save because the MX upgrade and RedRocket are $5,750.00 and $4,750.00 respectively
which equals $10,500.00 but as a bundle are $8,750.00, which is a savings of $1,750.00 thennnnnnn when my numbers up
I enter the Stage 2 Epic program which makes me eligible for the MX Upgrade "troop loyalty rebate"
which saves me another $1,250.00 which of course is $3,000.00 but now that I think about it...
the money I save on these two bundles and rebates is almost like taking stage 3 (plus$1,800.00), only I KEEP my original R1...I LOVE YOU RED.

Seriously...thank you Jim, Graeme, the RED TEAM and my rep (Justin J) who'se done nothing but educate and encourage my insatiable appetite for all things RED.

To the Future (4K)

Peter,
You should just rent one of mine... ;)
Cheers,
Harry

You know that as a Producer/PM I will always put your cameras up for any and all RED rental situations. Hell ... we went to the same film school. If we ever do a three camera RED shoot for WebMD, I promise that you and Bob Rudis will own all three cameras that we use ... granted they are available.

My frustration is that I personally want to transition this year into shooting with RED. I might be one of the few non-RED One owners on this discussion forum. However, I am certain that I am not alone in the film/video community in my desire to start owning/operating a RED.

Sometimes I feel like this is a closed fraternity of camera users. I am waiting to be asked to tie a ball point pen to my junk and have 50 Delta Delta Delta girls sign a petition of admission.

:yikes:

I simply need to formulate a plan that will let me learn the RED work flow this year using a RED one, and then transition into an Epic in the fall.

However ... I cannot seem to get an official answer to a question that is of great importance to me.

I wrote Brent directly, and he was kind enough to get back to me right away on my RED Pro Prime question. However, he did not know the official stance on Epic S35 priority of RED One owners who purchased post Oct 30th/2009.

*I understand that as a post Oct 30th/2009 Red One owner that I would not "qualify for the same level of reward" of free modules.

*And I understand that the 7300+ serial numbers will get a crack at Epic before me.

I just want to know: As a late January RED One purchaser ... will I have some level of priority over a non-RED One owner when stage 3 is finally completed.

For me, that would be one of the motivating factors for buying a RED One now.

Is this policy still be decided on?

Please let me know, Jim.

Has the upgrade program begun?

Yes. If you purchase a RED ONE today... you will have priority in receiving an EPIC over a non-owner.

By not being a "post Oct 30th/2009 Red One owner" you do realize that you can't send the RED One body to receive credit for the S35-EPIC...correct?

(just making sure)

This is correct... thanks for clarifying.

Peter,

If you need any help or advice in planning this please feel free to PM me and i'll give you a number where you can call me.

I've fielded quite a few calls from users here lately RE: red workflow, etc.

It's best to be informed and I am happy to help out a fellow user.

David

PS: I'll make that same offer to anyone who needs a hand.

Jim

Thank you for an answer, Jim.

However, now I am really confused.

In your Oct. 30th announcement. Post#17 at 5:02pm you wrote this in your first paragraph:

"Anyone who buys a new RED ONE or a used RED ONE and transfers ownership after yesterday... will be able to trade it in for $17,500 credit on an EPIC-S35 Brain ONLY."

My understanding was:

I can buy a Red one tomorrow. Use it this year and trade it in for $17,500.00 off of the (Epic-S35 brain only) price of $28,000.00.

Is that not the case?

I may very well take you up on this offer. At this point, I am really confused.

Additional cigar suggestions:

*AVO Limited Edition 05
*Padron 1926 Anniversary Series Natural and Maduro

I understand your confusion. I watch carefully all of the posts made by Jim and the rest of the RED team, and I believe it was around the November 30th update that that little statement changed. The reason for the trade-in value was because the RED One turned out to not fulfill the potential of RED's goal for complete "modularity".

"Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..." and you could probably also add "plans" to that slogan...

Look at what RED showed us at NAB '08. Even then, they didn't look like they had the whole concept of the DSMC wrapped in their development of the EPIC/Scarlet. (proved by the trademark not being registered til October 27, 2008).

In order to keep their promise to the original RED customers by retaining the motto of "rendering obsolescence obsolete", they offered the full $17,500 credit if they wanted to adopt the DSMC.

Now, with the M-X sensor being installed in first generation RED Ones, this credit is not necessary for RED's business model...

I have read this forum nearly every day since October 30th.

Please provide a link to this "little" change.

If you are correct, I am truly speechless.

Ok, I'm not exactly finding the clarification post. The more I look at other stuff, I've come to the conclusion that Jim probably meant to say: "Anyone who buys a new RED ONE or a used RED ONE and transfers ownership BEFORE yesterday... will be able to trade it in for $17,500 credit on an EPIC-S35 Brain ONLY."

Why do I think this?

(1) see attachment that was posted in the same thread 'cept it's post #6
(2) Jim confirmed my post tonight.

Sorry I couldn't find the clarifying post out of the other 530,902 posts on REDuser. :)

Stage 2:

Stage 2:

Simple question: how many RED One owners are going to get an invite for Stage 2?

Is it all of us, offered in serial # order, or is there a cap on how many can take this stage? If so, what is that cap?

I searched for anyone asking or answering this question and did not find it, but if it has been answered, sorry for the repetition. Epic-X is a big purchase, we're trying our best to make informed plans on which path to take here.

Joseph,

According to post #6, that you referenced above, anyone who owned a RED one (or transfered ownership) BEFORE October 30th is able to trade it in for $17,500.00 credit towards an Epic-X AND bonus modules. This would be Stages 1-3.

Post #17 ("Anyone who buys a new RED ONE or a used RED ONE and transfers ownership after yesterday... will be able to trade it in for $17,500 credit on an EPIC-S35 Brain ONLY.") was referencing people who HAD NOT purchased a RED One by that date. My understanding was that those individuals would still get the trade-in credit but not the free bonus modules.

If any change has been made to that policy, I have never seen it, and I read this board almost every day.

I am really glad that you brought this up, because I was going to place a $45,000 order on Monday. That would have included a RED One and a full set of RED Pro Primes. However, this order was based on the expected trade in. If this is not the case, it will change these plans.

For this reason, I would like to hear an official word, from a member of the RED team that there has been yet another cut-off date that I have missed.

:banghead:

If I have missed this message, and even you cannot find it for me among the 530,000+ posts, I would suggest that others may have missed it too. People may have purchased a RED One after this cut-off and been unaware that their camera is not eligible for a trade-in towards the Epic-S35.

Can someone from RED please confirm whether or not a RED One purchased right now is still eligible for a trade in credit towards an Epic-S35?

Stage 2 is open to all Red One owners who bought or transferred ownership before Oct. 30. Seems Red would prefer people to go with Stage 2 rather than trade in for full value.

Your best bet is to call them and confirm. You might also try sending a PM to Brent.

Hold that thought... there is some internal confusion about this (probably me). We'll post the answer on Monday.

Jim

As promised, first group of eligible cameras were blasted today. Before you ask "How many?" and "What rate will you be upgrading?", etc - let us get through this first batch to get some data points on how quickly people send in, etc. Reminder, we are blasting in order of delivery date, not serial number.

BC

Is there some kind of way to calculate our delivery date number? This would be very useful to see where many of us stand in line. Although I could imagine that would take someone a lot of work but couldn't hurt to ask. cheers.
