  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE M-X Sensor Upgrade Program

Cool, very good!! When possible, post a -estimated- time table when delivery date=upgrade date in future. (example delivery date + 18 months=time to sent in the baby:)

I own a RED Rocket™, and can certainly confirm that!

But I would like to know how future proof it is. Will the Rocket be able to work with 5K Epic footage? I'm less concerned about real-time playback than transcoding. Is the frame buffer in there big enough for 5k?

It has been said in the past that 24 and 25 fps should be possible in 5K. Probably needs a good amount of fine tuning before we can get there though...

The R1 M-X Sensor upgrade program will begin next Friday (Jan. 22nd)

The price of the upgrade is $5750 and includes the M-X Sensor and Sensor Board replacement as well as the new upgraded Optical Low Pass Filter.

Customers that upgrade their cameras and decide to enter STAGE 1 or STAGE 2 of the epic program will receive a credit back of $1250 at the time they enter either of those 2 stages.

There is also bundle price for the sensor upgrade plus a RED Rocket™™™ card for $8750.

Jarred - just to be clear then, if I were to upgrade my camera with Mysterium X and get the bundled Red Rocket Card and go Stage 2, in the end I'd spend a total of $7500 to get a Mysterium-X'd Red One and a Red Rocket card (plus costs and benefits of Stage 2 Epic)- correct?

If so, that's a great deal!

this is a very good point... specially if you are processing a healthy amount of footage.

I don't know if it has changed since in the last few months since I did my initial testing with Rocket and Rocketcine-X, but one of the things I noticed was that while DPXs could be generated very quickly (up to 32fps with sufficiently fast storage), if you needed to write to a codec such as members of the ProRes or DNxHD family, things slowed waaaaaaaaaay down - so keeping that CPU free is of SUBSTANTIAL value.

Please note that new RED ONEs with upgraded M-X sensors will not be sold until all existing customers have had the opportunity to upgrade their cameras.

I don't understand - If I buy a Red One, don't I immediately, at that moment, become an existing customer? Can't I then, as that existing customer, opt for a sensor upgrade before my cmaera ships?

Sure you can, but you will be in line in the order that your camera shipped.

We HIGHLY recommend a RED Rocket™ card to anyone posting RED footage. Those of you that have one know what I mean. Not a sales pitch... just a fact.

Jim

Ill take the RED ROCKET BUNDLE as we need a 2nd card for our Quantel Pablo

Can we assume we still get the $1250 credit on Stage 2 Upgrade, even with Rocket Bundle?

If yes, That is INSANELY COOL!!

THANKS!

What about cameras that have changed ownership and done so with sending it in to RED anding paying all the associated fees? What is considered camera shipping date for this camera -- initial shipping for the first customer or ownership transition to the second?

That is just the fairest deal ever!!!!

If you do the ownership transfer through the proper channels (ie, through Kelly here at RED), then original delivery date sticks with the camera through the transfer.

THIS is why it was worth the (very reasonable) transfer fees everyone was bitching about.

THANK YOU!

I assume we will be getting emails from RED about when our number comes up?

One other crucial question is this one: When are Epic-X and Scarlet-X going to start shipping? I am "resource constrained" at the moment, and would prefer to own the Epic-X or even a Scarlet-X, but I don't want to have to wait two years to get one.

Thanks.

Good to hear!

Didn't build 21 already give you 4.5K? What, extra, does the M-X sensor offer in a red one?
