  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE M-X Sensor Upgrade Program

If you have seen Jim and Jarred's recent posts/frame grabs from X'd out RED One Camera's, the answer is image quality... Dynamic Range, increased usable ISO, etc, etc.

one serious question.

Is the EPIC program on schedule?

The answer is important to figure out what the upgrade investment is on a monthly basis.

While I won't be going to upgrade route myself (waiting for Epic) I'm really excited to start seeing the projects that are going to be done with the updated camera. I wonder who will have the distinction of making the first music video/short/feature with the new sensor...

Edit- having said that, I seem to recall the post in Recon about Social Network being done with M-X modded Ones. But since I won't be seeing shots form that for a while yet, m y excitement stands!

Red is extremely generous as it is...they can't make every incentive retroactive, or people will start demanding even more. Nothing's ever good enough for a lot of customers.

Not if you have been making money with your Rocket. I suppose if you bought one yesterday it kind of sucks, but it's like this in any business. Deals happen, and most of them are not retroactive.

If you have had a Rocket for a couple months, presumably it has been making money while everyone else who will be buying one now hasn't. I'm sure a lot of people have already paid theirs off.

The way I see it, there are deals that will be good timing for me, and there will be deals that I might miss the boat on. Hopefully it all evens out in the end.

I think this is a great deal by the way. Nice one guys!
 
Is the option of upgrading our R1's still available after we take shipment of stage 2 epics for instance?.. or is this upgrade program something that needs to happen beforehand?
 
Where are the specs on the MX upgrade? I would love to know details before I commit. Also the RR rocks. Used it for all transfers on our second season of a series for HBO.

"The price of the upgrade is $5750 and includes the M-X Sensor and Sensor Board replacement as well as the new upgraded Optical Low Pass Filter.
Customers that upgrade their cameras and decide to enter STAGE 1 or STAGE 2 of the epic program will receive a credit back of $1250 at the time they enter either of those 2 stages."

I am quoting from B
"Stage One price is $28,000. This STAGE ONE system includes one S35 M-X Brain with PL mount, one Bomb EVF, one REDMOTE, One Side CF Module , one Module Adapter, one Pro IO Module….Stage ONE may also choose to upgrade their RED ONE to M-X for $4500 and have priority.


Before going any further…. is that mean that the total of upgrading now and the benefit to be part of the "Tattoo stage" will cost $32,500?
Is that also mean you upgrade for $4500 get the new M-X but able to shoot only 4.5K with it since limitations of the Red One and only when you go to stage one you get a 5K camera in the shape of the Red One? (Epic inside Red One on the outside?)
 
David, I don't see the contradiction. Both quotes say the same thing. Can you explain which bit(s) you're confused about?
