  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE M-X Sensor Upgrade Program

We HIGHLY recommend a RED Rocket card to anyone posting RED footage. Those of you that have one know what I mean. Not a sales pitch... just a fact.

Jim

Initially, M-X upgrades will be done out of RED Lake Forest, USA.

Thanks for replying Brent, but sure hope RED UK (& Canada, & Japan) becomes an option before my later number comes up. Seriously, it'd make a lot of people's life a lot easier and less costly!

I'm getting more used to the many facets of RED. One thing I've been hesitant with is investing in the RED ROCKET. It's a relatively large expense and my experience with computers in the past three years has been that they outdate rather quickly. I'm new to this piece of the puzzle; the RR. How long could my purchase last before it's outdated?

Will we be able to use the footage from M-X with the "old" REDCODE plugins for our software until all developers update their products?

For example, will i be able to cut natively my R3D footage from M-X in Sony Vegas like i do now or will i have to transcode everything with the new REDCINE first until Sony gets the new SDK?

If the REDCINE will be the only option at the beginning of the transition how long will it take for the new SDKs to go around?

and one more question:

Will the read/reset time of the sensor be faster than the old Mysterium? Meaning, will we get less skew with the M-X or will it be the same like M due to REDONE's limitations?

thanks!

The bundle price with Epic ?

The bundle price with Epic ?

Hello Jarred,

This bundle price for the sensor upgrade plus a RED Rocket™™™ card for $8750 will be the same if we also purchase EPIC in STAGE 1 & STAGE 2 ?

Besides the huge change of going from 320iso to 800iso, will there be any changes at all to Red One's abilities or is the upgrade limited to that? Even just that is huge, just trying to see if anything else made it in or if that's what Epic is for.

What if your doing stage 3 or is it 4 the R1 turn in for Epic for $10.5k? Can you keep the R1 if you do the sensor upgrade? I've always thought that made sense, why would Red want all these cameras back? I would upgrade and keep my R1's for that, but I really want Epics.

More than one camera

More than one camera

I have 3 cameras. #835, 6118 and 6119. Will I be able to upgrade all 3 when my first number comes up or do we have to wait for each order date?

Is there only a certain number of new sensors in stock or will it be pretty non-stop like the audio upgrade program and with conditions as such, like if you wanted to wait a little.

I have several cameras as well, one of which is a very low number early delivery but to have only one MX with no backup would not be very helpful to us.

I suspect that this upgrade will go pretty fast. Can that be confirmed?

I love my R1 ... I love my RR ... but it's the SIZE of EPIC that I am looking forward to.

I'm sure the M-X upgrade will be GREAT (samples so far seem impressive) but it will not give me a smaller unit.
Aside from the physical side of things, STAGE_3 is $10.5k ... the M-X upgrade is over 1/2 that value (with no trade in value for when STAGE_3 kicks in).

Might change my mind if :
- EPIC gets delayed :furious3:
- RED UK can do the M-X upgrade
- output from M-X is just toooooooo wicked to resist :emote_happyhappy:

For the moment ... I'll hang out for the EPIC ;-)

I would say between 5-8 years no problem. Even if you have a CPU fast enough to do the same amount of processing in the same amount of time, it is always nice to free up the CPU to do other tasks simultaneously.

You will also get the $1250 off when you purchase EPIC Stage 1 & 2.

Quick question, but I think I know the answer... the M-X Sensor to be upgraded in the R1's is the same as the M-X sensor that will debut with Epic Brains in Stage 1 and 2. Can someone confirm?

Correct. Exact same sensor. Stage 1 and 2 Epics may still get the premium slices though...

I own a Red Rocket, and can certainly confirm that!

But I would like to know how future proof it is. Will the Rocket be able to work with 5K Epic footage? I'm less concerned about real-time playback than transcoding. Is the frame buffer in there big enough for 5k?

Each upgrade group will be based on RED ONE delivery date per camera. Not send in all with the earliest delivery date. We would be way too front-loaded to be effective.

Like audio board upgrade program, yes.

Thanks Curran,

Your response made me realize what I was trying to say; how long before a computer is likely to handle the processing... though it would be speculation, I was thinking there is an obsolescence obsolete philosophy/path for the Red rocket that I'm not familiar with. Pardon my ignorance.

.

this is a very good point... specially if you are processing a healthy amount of footage.
