  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE M-X Sensor Upgrade Program

Rick,
I am in the same boat as Keith. What I think he is getting at (me too) is there was an expectation of 5-7 days given to us, only to hear after we shipped that it is more like 15 days... To be fair I do not know if my camera will be held up or not. Its just a matter of planning. I am happy to wait longer...just would have been nice to know before.

Here's to M-X!

I just wanted to say a quick thank you to Nick and everyone involved with the RED MX upgrade program. My camera was in/out and worked a commercial the day after it got back.

And this new sensor is amazing! 800 ASA is sooo the new black. Thanks again RED! Could not have been happier with the upgrade experience.

However, it might be good to post this as a separate closed thread so that people do not have to dig for this info.

I agree. How about a twitter account we can follow or an RSS feed with news we can subscribe to for these kinds of news updates? It's becoming a pain to find out what's going on with all the exciting news surfacing all the time :-) It should be about time that RED mature a little in this respect

Back in my day it took 32 days to get my MX upgraded. You should feel lucky. Sorry about the wait. If you need an MX body, I can rent you mine for a good price. rgdfilms@gmail.com

Wow.. that's quite a response for a guy who were just expressing his feeling.

Just a heads up.. the remainder of this week and next week is going to be one of those crossover times where we will have a pause in getting parts for the upgrade, Shipping will resume the week of the 26th.

Great timing. Just sent my camera in for upgrading :-/

What serial number do you have, Tony?

Exactly, Red has said they want the customer's experience to be as positive as possible, well here is a suggestion. Since Red knows what the status of parts is and also who is about to send cameras it seems a simple solution to warn people to hold off shipping the camera if there are no parts to do the upgrade.
See, no surprises, happy customer, simple!
Not pissed, just sayin'

Unfortunately, when we get surprised, it trickles down to you - the customers. I think RED has shown when there are known delays and such, we are upfront. But the reality is, sometimes WE are told everything is on track from a supplier - and we get blindsided. That is the case here. As soon as we confirmed that there would be a delay, Jarred posted.

Sorry, guys, I know it sucks. Believe me, we were really humming along and are just as disappointed as you when we have to pump the brakes.

Will that same supplier be making the Epic sensor?

It's a shortage of static-free lab suits.

Isn't it?

I think they just ran out of bolts. (but they still have plenty of nuts)

hahaha. I needed that laugh. thanks, peter.

I'm wondering when the full stop of shipping cameras back took effect. At least the people that just sent their camera in at the end of last week or beginning of this week know what to expect. RED received my camera on June 28th - so I don't know if I'm also going to be waiting until July 26th for the camera to ship or not. I haven't heard anything one way or the other about it.

Sadly, I booked some shoots based on the 7-10 business day expected upgrade process (plus the time for shipping) that I should reschedule or cancel if it's going to be an extra week or two. The shoots weren't scheduled to the wire, but definitely scheduled for about three or four days after I should have received it.

Let me suggest a slightly different approach. You know I love you guys, but posting stuff like this buried in a thread on Reduser is a bad idea. For those about to send in their camera for upgrades (or otherwise being caught in stuff like this) it would be a great (simple, yet very effective) idea to contact those directly involved. I got an e-mail 3 days ago promising me a 7-10 day turn-around for my camera and it wasn't until I had already send in my camera that I got the notice by e-mail because I had a few questions related to the upgrade. You should have sent me an e-mail as soon as this problem came up.

I seriously urge RED to rethink the way they inform their customers about changes like this. Posting here on Reduser is fine, but not everyone checks in daily. Some are gone for days and weeks and rely on getting e-mails with important information - especially if they've sent their camera in for upgrades and expect to get it back within the time-frame they were promised.
