  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE build 32

I guess the facetious nature of the post was lost on you Dan. My point was if the R1 is dead then how come I'm still getting rentals for it?

Hahaha, Yes your right Jeremy, I guess I didnt get it! You are right, and $1,000 isnt bad, its just a little low!! WE, as RED OWNERS control the rental price not the client! If we say no than they can go find a desperate rental house that doesnt care. But you ARE right my friend!!!

I don't want to turn this thread into a rental price argument but its sad that people are taking anything just to stay working or rent their camera for such low prices.....WE are at fault for the drop in demand unless we change the prices of our camera kits. I wish we could all demand better money so we as DP's wont make less than someone at a STARBUCKS. No disrespect to the Starbucks guys too!!!!

Low prices? The man just made 1/4 of his camera's value back in 2 days worth of rental!

If that's the payoff, I should have ordered every one of the BT One's Jim was just offering.

Just further proof that Andre's depleting value argument isn't a strong one. Now that RED has cut off the supply, the value will start to rise again as the demand becomes harder to fill.

AMEN TO THAT!!!

The "R1 is cheap" argument is horribly flawed. The reason low prices kill markets is because people have a lower priced option. Why pay $8K when you can pay $4K? But you can't anymore. Just try to find an R1 for $4K right now... I just watched a BT R1 turn for $8000. Guy bought it and changed his mind, doubled his money.

THATS AWESOME!!! I hope it goes up more than that too!!! IM NOT SELLING MINE BUT LOVE TO HEAR THAT!!!

Exactly, I had considered selling my camera, then it went to $4k then I got a 2 day rental on it. It's still a fantastic camera, a great camera for interviews and a great b-camera to the epic.
Even at $500 a day for the body I don't need to have many rentals to get to $4k. It's already paid for itself many times over so any rental money now is gravy.
However, I may need some more lenses soon ;)

Hi all. Any update on the release build of this. Would love to put it on my red ones. Thanks!

Hi Jarred
I'm still waiting for releasebuild 32.
Now it is end Jan. 2013 more than 2 months later.
Do you have a new estimate for the releasebuild?
Best

I know it's a big job to do a proper release build.

Would it be possible for us to have a new Beta in the meantime with the 48gb SSD support for those affected to test things out?
I realise that still means producing an actual build with all that implies but it wouldn't have to be as rock solid as a proper release build.

Just a thought?

Or are you really close to releasing the new build now anyway? :)

working on it Freya.. we have alot on our plate right now. but 48GB on the R1 ironically is why we made the 48GB card in the first place.. so its coming.

It seems it's been quite popular with a fair few BT Red One users! Only it turns out it's presently not supported which unfortunately has made it VERY unpopular with a fair few BT Red One users! ;)

Thankfully I didn't buy any of them but you can obviously see the appeal to the people who are on a low budget and just starting out with a red one and quite a few people were led to believe that it would work.

It would be good if you could find a solution to help these people soon somehow.

Is it just a matter of people waiting till after the big trade show coming up, when it won't be so crazy?

Freya

P.S. Thanks for the Super fast reply Jarred! Appreciated! :)

Trade show doesnt have anything to do with it.. the 100 or so open projects does :)

Ah! I was kinda hoping it was just you were busy getting ready for the big event! ;)

Well I do understand it's a lot of work to do a build but if it's going to be a long time before the proper release build I do think it could be worth doing a second beta with just that extra bit of code in there, or even a rollback to the last stable release with the extra bit of code just for the customers affected.

I'm somewhat concerned too that some of the people affected might be holding off using the camera in earnest till they are able to use their 48gb ssd and time is ticking away on their 3 month warranty. Just don't want it all to become more of a can of worms than it already is.

I care too much about other people tho. Gotta stop doing that too and focus on ME more! ;) heh heh

Jarred, it might make sense to remove the RED ONE compatibility from the description until this is resolved. I think it might eliminate some confusion for the time being and once the release build comes out and all is well, the description can go back to the way it was. When these were first released, I almost bought one just to have as a spare SSD so it wouldn't have affected me very much, but anyone who is looking to use it as a primary media should probably know the deal going in.

And thanks again for making SSD possible on the Red One. It makes a world of difference, and is the most flexible of all the cameras as it can use SSD, CF, RED RAID, and RED RAM drives.
