May be a graphic of text that says 'ZCINEM Z CINEMA EMA'

This is what Nikon's official press release states:

Personally, I think Z Cinema is Nikon's answer to Sony's Cinealta or Canon's Cinema Eos branding.
As stated in the press release, branding that is a synergy of both RED and Nikon's product lines.

Having said that you never know what decision makers are smoking these days (trust me I'm a citizen of the US)
and it would be a horrible move to get rid of or phase out RED (considering the legacy, the tech, and the team there).

If people need a reminder of what RED represents ....

or what likely inspired some of the above...

Currently no. The way this functions on Nikon is it's smoothly cropping into from the full Full Frame 135 image to about an APS-C frame to provide more range.

If you want to get this range from the get go, I'd film in 6K through 4K, heck even 2K if you only need that resolution, then you'd get that extra range and tighter field of view.

It could be made working with R3D if the file format had a per-frame crop number available but afaik the specification doesn't currently have this. If it had, then an increasing crop number could be added to each frame once we reach the end of the optical zoom range, at the pace of the zoom speed to continue smoothly. Stretching the cropped frames to full resolution then completes the work. Maybe.

I hope Cooke releases a Z mount option for the SP3 - and some of the other recent mirrorless native mid level cine primes around. I know KipperTie sells a Z kit for the Zeiss Nanos but many do not offer Z.

The rumor sounds interesting although they predict a Nikon Z6III sensor inside.
If RED hardware was used in a Nikon camera I would imagine it would be sensor
related.
Perhaps this camera would have R3D capability.

Would be interesting to see the form factor of such a camera.
I'm personally still not the biggest fan of the DSLR/mirrorless form factor for filmmaking.
Obviously it can be done but the cinema cube form factor generally
lends itself to more flexible rigging and effective cooling.

Components, particularly high heat generating ones like sensor and storage, are packed so
close to each other in DSLR camera bodies that I can see heat issues being an ongoing concern
as technology and specs improve.

In the Komodo OG and X ,that 1.5-2 inch cooling gap between the sensor and storage/electronics does wonders
in keeping the heat down in those cameras with minimal fan noise.
