RED DSMC3 with Nikon Z-Mount. You now have more lens options and even more adapted lens options.

It would be great if you could just swap out the mount on the fly, or at least send off to RED for a conversion!
According to this News Shooter article you can send it to RED for conversion.

“Owners now also have the option to convert their V-RAPTOR [X] and KOMODO-X RF mount versions to the all-new Z Mount systems. This transition costs $1,695 USD for the V-RAPTOR [X] and $1,595 USD for the KOMODO-X.

Just to be crystal clear, the Z mount versions of the KOMODO-X and V-RAPTOR [X] don’t offer anything new apart from the different mount and different autofocus performance.”

Beautiful. That's what I like to hear!
I have a TON of Nikon glass (Vintage, DSLR era, & Modern Z) and I'm excited to start using them all on a global shutter! Glad I can keep my camera and gain new functionality!

I’m keeping my optimism in check as this is just the 1st steps of many but I do have a feeling RED and Nikon know what they’re doing with this endeavor.

Great to see some moves being made! I would imagine it was fairly easy for them to adapt their PL mounts, good to see all that happening.

Now use that Nikon money to give us beautiful HDR tandem OLED monitors please.

Good to hear! Canon had the chance to throw all their AF tech in, I guess Nikon will do it... On a side note every time I hear Neeekon, it sounds like scratching on a chalk board LOL. It will be interesting to see how far they get with the RF autofocus...

A note to be made. RED will have access to more Nikon Z glass than I will and it sounds like they are making a new lens coverage tool, which is good as I stopped doing that long ago and CVP does a decent job on that front.

But the info I'm aiming at is since RED is now making both Nikon Z-Mount and Canon RF-Mount bodies note that:
- Nikon FX and Canon RF = Full Frame (135mm or 36x24mm coverage)
- Nikon DX and Canon RF-S = APS-C, which essentially can be interpretted as Super 35mm coverage.

RED's VV format (at full resolution 17:9) is a wee bit larger than the 43.31mm diagonal/image circle for Full Frame/135. However, as we know, many lenses are designed with overprovisioned coverage, which btw helps with lenses that have stabilization in them.

Komodo-X has a very Super 35mm-minded sensor design, I don't see a lot of potential for coverage issues there. In fact, part of the new KX format size is to allow for 6K S35 to be very straightforward.

Surely if companies are able to make Z mount to E mount adapters, they may also be able to make Z to RF adapters? Or really more likely is companies making specialist mirrorless lenses can also just easily offer them in Z instead of RF.

We haven't seen anybody "crack that" yet, but it appears to be technically possible to do Z>RF and Z>L.

There's one sticky pit on the inner diameter, with Z being 55mm and RF being 54mm. That is the real question.

I didn't know there is X mount to Z mount adapter with AF! So it possible to use Fuji's APSC lenses on Komodo X, with auto focus! Z versatility is ridiculous 😄

Hey it's a good thing I went all-in on RF when Red previously abandoned Nikon glass, mounts etc, despite Nikon being my ancestral homeland.

The most interesting thing will be whether or not their next body is offered in RF, or Z only.

Well, Canon prefers to officially license their RF standard. Viltrox would’ve had much better luck if they would have acquired licensing first….
Well they didn't let anybody make AF full frame lens for RF, so licensing is not always their preference.
