  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Mysterious SKULL

phfx_redDragonNAB2015_JarredNewWingTease.jpg

Looks like the right-front side of a new camera and red ball under lens mount. No 3.5 mm audio ports on front. No fan in front. 2-round shapes above skull, almost looks like XLR. Maybe a rehoused Dragon, w better fans and connectors. The torx screws look very big compared to camera, and makes almost look like a smaller camera.

Flying the camera refers to more than just a copter. It also includes gimbal and steadicam. Wireless control is desirable for each of those scenarios, but a fully networked camera does offer much more than just remote control.

Think of a fully synced and integrated set where all departments have access to a complete set of frame accurate metadata. Every log, note, report and every action taken on set could be effortlessly re-linked to a specific frame of footage. That could mean no more duplicated work on set and no more searching for data in post.

Director's notes... Synced and linked.

Script notes... Synced and linked.

Want to know which actor's dialogue is on a particular track? Well you don't have to wonder because each and every audio track could come into the editing bay auto synched, linked and labeled by the recording engineers. Need to know the make and model of mic? It's there. Boom or lav? The info is there, part of the video file. The AE doesn't have to enter any of that data at all.

The editor could stop the play head on a frame and have instant access to any and every piece of data generated on set and associated with that instant in time. If makeup kept a log you could know what product was covering the circles under an actress' eyes on a shot without anyone needing to do more than click a button and submit a properly formatted report to the production team. Hell you could even know what that actress had for breakfast that morning.

...and all of this metadata can be searched in reverse. Want to see every shot that includes talent that ate a croissant for breakfast that morning? Just search for croissant. ;-)

It's potentially HUGE! Of course this is all software dependant, (some of it very simple scripting) but it all begins with the camera and clock on a network.

Seriously though, not sure any flying accessory warrants much excitement.. Or if it does that excitement is just from a very small section of customers.

Another clue :D

For the Current Dragon camera to be 'Thinner' that means either the SSD is being modified, or the Switchblade is being modified ... or both.

Next Guess :

+) I reckon that the Dragon is getting a 802.11a Wave 2 chip from Quantenna Communcications
+ Beanforming means signal strength can be boosted by 12 dB -> 25 dB (so Huge range)
+ Useful transmission rate of 1.7 Gb / sec (using up to 8 bonded 5Ghz channels)

+) That the Side SSD will no longer be used

+) That the Extra memory in the Dragon will be used to buffer writing to a Raid with 4 solid state devices (>= 1TB)

+) That there will be a new wireless Brain control module

+) That a new device will allow wireless video transmission to multiple devices.

But hang on ... Wireless_Control, Video_transmission, High_Speed Solid state storage .... just One device the "RedWing" that does all of the these ... and slots in where the Switchblade currently fits.

---

And that ET have been working on a FIZ Control that allows you to remotely control the camera ... and ability to offload the and dump footage from the Dragon ...and 'See' through the dragons eyes on an inbuilt screen /and view playback what is stored on the remote control.

Christoffer why do you think that way? I just finished a draft edit of a feature length film in premiere all shot in 6k 1:8 compression. And we were on a very very tight budget.

You might be able to do it if it's only you and not a lot of producers and financers and studios etc. needing daily looks at the current cuts, trying out different cuts, merging ideas, fast outputs etc. etc.
Many productions need a very fast workflow during editing and Premiere is super slow for exporting an entire feature length film with temporary VFX and temporary compositing and so on.

I also find it hard to actually work fast as an editor with the r3d's directly, even on a fast system. Working with offline files has a latency improvement on the actual working experience and for me it means that just a few ms of latency makes all the difference between a happy workday or a frustrating crapday.

Interchangeable sensor module.... Basically be able to have different "sensor box's" attach different mounts to said "sensor box", tether said sensor box to camera aka skull, shoot to your hearts desire.

Ok i get it now :)
I was just thinking it was doable but as you mentioned when other variebles add it to the equation it is not reliable that much.

Like how you're thinking...

Has anyone seen Mikael Lubtchansky of FoolControl's latest instagram post? Another secret addition to the RED body that may or may not be related to this mysterious skull...

http://instagram.com/mikafool/

yep , is possible....
maybe it is a module for 3D LUT?
Can load many LUT 3D, in wireless mode, select via portable, ios, foolcontrol eccec. :) :)

Mikael's box looks like another kind of hotbox so he can sell turnkey systems.
Probably doing less thing on one side, more on the other.
It seems to interface with the Red bodies in a better way than the hotbox.

I'm not sure the side handle has enough room though, but as it's designed to replace it...

We need a module like that like with a single SDI 4k out that will let us participate in live broadcasting, narrowcasting or whatever but live.

Ha ha so funny Scott and Scott your names are close enough that at first though i thought you were having an argument with yourself :)
