  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Mysterious SKULL

Dragon probably has boards in it that will accommodate whatever this snap on side panel thing is

where was it written that we have to wait until NAB?

I think Jarred used the hashtag #DoIreallyNeedToWaitTillNAB? as a tease, not as a way of saying we must wait till NAB - I would not take it too literally.

I think the only reason that they'll hold stuff back is because the R&D or manufacturing phases are not yet complete...or if the manufacturing phase is completed so close to NAB that withholding it would be a PR benefit.

Since it is taking the place of the Side Handle (By all appearances) perhaps it is a new battery module based on the flat shapes of modern laptops. Could be very helpful when traveling by air.

I really like this out of the box thinking, but it's been bolted on with allen wrenches. If it's a battery that small it needs to be swappable in less time than it would be discharged. A battery that size would last like 15 minutes. Would be pretty awesome though to have a wireless power system. No power cable running from the gimbal to the brain.

If it's specific to Dragon, it has to be related to compression or Processing power.

Not necessarily. Tethered recording I believe is only coming to Dragon. So there are definitely a few things that the new Dragon processors are able to do.

Jeff, I'm thinking the allen screws could be just to hold the module together. And since the flat battery packs could be folded so that they were like four or five deep oriented lattitudinally, the module would probably be no deeper than a side handle. Surely that could power a camera considerably longer than a number of Redvolts.

ADDITIONAL: To further advocate for this power solution (in case the skull is something different '-) we could purchase additional modules to swap out as power sources.

And eventually, when the batteries wear out... just send them back to RED for new battery packs to be placed in the module... or, make it a customer friendly swap and let RED sell only the innards, thus making our power modules fall into the "obsolescence obsolete" category.

Probably a great weight savings too.

APOLOGIES Gavin for referring to you as Jeff. It's just that in my mind, you and Jeff are both knowledgeable... + the fact I'm some times concentrating on what I'm writing rather than who I'm addressing. '-)

Does anyone have any software that can refocus an image that is out of focus?

What is in the Foreground that we are looking Through?

AJ

EDIT 1 : Looks like we are staring through translucent ribbed plastic on the left. A vertical strip of 5 holes ... like in the seams of parachute.

EDIT 2 : Maybe this is a Red Zeppelin that allows the camera to Float without wasting power (like all drones on the market ...) that allows you to do super cool ariel shots and a fail-safe chute.

EDIT 3 : What about the markings at the top of the object on the right .... are are they USB ports that will allow 100W charging of Elsie's superbrick LiPo power source on the left (that needs to be strapped on so it doesn't fall off) ... and 5Gbit offloading (don't think this could two SuperMHL connectors?)

EDIT 4 : Uploaded a picture in post #118

My thinking is that the modules on the side and front are actually lead weight modules so that now the epic can now have the same weight and feel as the alexa and f55. :)

Just as as an FYI this ability is in the current build today. I've shot bursts at 2:1 compression at high framerates for a few seconds, as just one example.

Battistella

Wait I'm sorry.... Whhhhut? Where is this hidden?

I think it's a new, smaller camera (for drone, gimbal, etc) - with similar config to EPIC/SCARLET so a number of accessories still work. That's why the front fan is different - it's a new camera! I also think it's incorporating a new "wireless" module on the side too.

Just a guess!
