  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Curious on 512gb

Recently noticed that the available space on my 512 mini is 447GB. Yeah, I know I can't access the whole 512GB but I was thinking the actual available space will be around 490~500. At 447, thats a full 64GB card out. Just curious if this the norm or there's something I didn't do or my card isn't functioning well.
Any clarification?

That's normal. It's the same for all REDMAGs. They don't fill up to 100% for a variety of reasons, but from what I understand it's a safety net on how the data rights.

I'm not sure how accurate that is. I know when I fill up a 128gig card, I transfer almost 128gigs of information. Same for my 64 and 256.

Just checked, and all of my full card 128gig offloads come in at about 126.4gigs. So 447 out of 512 seems pretty wrong. Going by my transfers each card holds about a gig less per 64gigs of storage. Should have approximates 504gigs available on a 512gig card.

Exactly my experience with 64gb offloads, I have approx 60gb per usage which is about 94% space availability. 447 is about 87% availability. Will love to hear from other reddies with mini mags have experienced.
 
Sounds like the the minimags utilize more conservative over-provisioning.
 
Just noticed the same thing today on my mini-mags. I thought 447 seemed a little low?

My 128 and 256 1.8" are maybe a GB or 2 under what they're actually listed at. 64 off on a 512 is a bit more then "normal" sounding to me.
 
Definitely a concern and should be mentioned officially in the manual as to why this is happening...as long as people know what to expect it shouldn't create as much a problem.

Unfortunately I still have my clients last set of clips in it, however, I remember clearly formatting the card just before we started the shoot. Will do a fresh format tomorrow and see if I can get a different figure. Thanks for the feedback.

Just opened a support ticket and from our conversation, 447 doesn't seem to be "normal", sending it back for examination. you might want to contact them as well.
