  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED MINI MAG , MINI MAG SIDE MODULE and MINI MAG STATION now shipping.

Any chance this could squeeze 5K at 24fps out of a Scarlet? The math says it might be just a little short?

sorry if i missed it earlier. There is only 1 size (512GB) Red mini mag?

Yup.... as you can see we have been working hard on getting the best possible pricing on the memory that goes inside the mags... the 1TB we are not happy with where it currently sits.

Can this be added to those awaiting Dragon upgrade? Any credit given for standard SSD module?

Not sure what you are asking in first part. No credit. This is optional. Just like it was optional when people on RED ONE could move from CompactFlash to REDMAG 1.8".

Will there be a rear Mini Mag SSD module in the future? I would love to have the option to use both types of memory without having to swap out the Side-SSD reader.

You may not be able to say now, but it's definitely a wish list item.

AND if you made a dual slot continuous recording rear Mini Mag SSD module, that would be awesome!

Compression chart:

im trying to get the idea on here.Minimag is only one step ahead of Redmag on compression type. This is the minimum compression you can go with Minimag? i was thinking about 6K 24Fps 2:1 3:1 / 5K 24Fps 1:1 something close to this.Any chance to tweak those in future and make it goes to eleven :)
for now Minimag

Pros:
Cheaper than redmag
Faster than redmag
Its futureproof so i guess we can use same mags on next camera whatever the name it is.

Cons:
Gotta buy Minimag Side SSD there is no adapter yet
only few steps on higher compressions ,1 on lower compression

Heh. I'm out to dinner and something I just batted around in my head while thinking about those compression ratios...

Still guys are going to love 6K 2:1 RED CODE RAW.

I guess the upside is if we're lucky some of us can start poaching more 128gb Red Mags from those jumping ship. The extra compression ratio isn't really my thing.

i wish someone will tell whats the datarate on 6K 25Fps 2:1,1:1.My late 2013 rMBP can write read 800mb/s.Im not the techguy so dont know Redmag Minimag is PCIe-Based or not.

I have a small product request. Can we get small metal or plastic case adapters for the mini mags that allow us to use cases we already have custom cut around the old size mags? Nothing functional for cameras or readers, just something to keep them in.

+1 Would love a case, yes!

+1 Being able to use both mags at once would be convenient, yes. Agreed!

just traded my Scarlet to Epic-MX do i have a chance to get Epic-MX with Mini Side SSD instead of old one?

You use the side ssd module of your Scarlet with your new Epic. Only the brain is upgraded.

Out of curiosity what's the speed of the current ssd reader in the camera body? 2G 3G? This is cool. Will it mean 96FPS in epic 5K will drop to 9:1 or so?
