  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red iPhone apps?

Boy, you really like dark grey text on a black background, don't you? The brightness and contrast must be turned way up on all the screens you use. :-)

What can I say? I don't like my pages white.
I'm changing the text color to white on the app in v1.2, do I take it you'd like the same for the site?

O.k, any requests for version 1.2?

Current updates planned:
White text
Saved states
User definable custom presets

Oh and just to let you know the app has been downloaded by more than 10,000 people since I released it.

Guess how many donated.. :waaa:

But, a big thanks to those who did!

Just grabbed it.... I'm not an owner myself, but I've been on a shoot for the odd day here and there over the past couple of weeks with a crew who are using one. Hopefully more so in the future....

I do like the app - it's very straightforward and simple. Very nice.

Ed 10K, that's great - Why'd you give it away?! I'm sure you've done your own math... damn.

Can't believe those who needed it can't afford $7.50. Losers. Bastards.
The economy isn't that bad and the RED isn't that expensive when all is said and done.

Maybe you could post a list of those who have donated..... Only works if you post the list of those who downloaded, nevermind.

My apologies, having a bad day - clients are completely out of their minds....

Request - Built in RED problem solver. Can solve any issues, anytime, anywhere.
And for free. Not gonna pay for what should have been there in the first place.

(Yes, joking)

I like it - a lot. Not used it in anger too much (although I did show the 2nd AC and DIT guys on a film I was on on friday night - they were both quite impressed by it, but neither of them have iPhones...)

A few thoughts/suggestions on it:

It would be nice to be able to customise the 4 camera settings, so you can have the ones that you want there when you need them. And to have the same 4 be there on the first 3 pages. (I know, it doesn't make so much sense to have the RED 2k, 3k and 4k all on the RedEye page, but if

For example, I'd want to have RED 4k, 35mm film, 16mm film and 35mm stills as my 4. And if I was shooting RED 2k or 3k, I could always just flip out the RED 4k for 2k settings.

Most of the pages have two buttons for changing the settings... This feels a little unnecessary.

It would be nice if the "calculate" button was unneeded. If changing any of the values or settings would automatically get the results re-calculated too.

That's all my thoughts for now - I do like it!

I was going to request the same thing! The iPhone is quite powerful, I'm sure it could handle recalculating any time anything is changed.

I donated.

That's pretty much what I'm planning for the next build. But It'll take me a while to get round to coding it. The eventual idea is to allow the user to set any camera they desire to the preset buttons.

I hear you on the calculate button, but for me it is a UI design preference.
I like the finality of pressing "calculate" to realize a result. It is also acts to ensure that the user sees all the settings are correct before reading the result, which on a hectic set I find useful.

Maybe I'll add a preference option for auto calc... we'll see.

Sounds cool.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing an 'auto calc' option....

It be interesting to see how, for example, the storage needed changes as you change the camera settings.... Or the DoF as the aperture changes

Ed,

Just downloaded and donated. Unfortunate that only a handful have donated, given the number of downloads from the App Store.

You might consider a $1 or $2 purchase on the App Store. I'm a cheap bastard, but so are most people. I like the app, and I'm sure I'll find it extremely useful in the days, weeks, months to come, but I have a hard time paying more than 4$ for an iphone app. And at 4$, is better wipe my ass for me.

I think if you had a price in the 1$/2$, you'd probably only get a few hundred purchases instead of 10k downloads, but you'd have still made a little more than what's been donated so far.

My suggestions, expand the application, using the same apps to support a variety of formats/cameras/sensors/etc. I can think of a lot of people who would find the same application valuable (at 2$ maybe even 3$) for HDV, MiniDV, P2, etc, 1/4", 1/3", 1/2" 16mm sensor sizes, etc.

I can see the method to your madness. Might I suggest having the calculate button highlighted (bright red or something) when any values have changed, but the calculate button HASN'T been pressed? An option to auto-calc would be a nice touch.

Thanks for the donation Kyle (and every one else!),

I'm not really out to make a profit on the App, I made it for my own use primarily, but people seemed interested enough to want me to put it on the app store.

The donation button was only online to cover the cost to get it on the store.
And with your last donation :greedy: ...I just reached that total. Yay!

I think I keep the RED version free, but I'm toying with the idea of making a $1 version with all the other camera formats in it.

Thanks!

Just to say that iSee4k it's great...

E-motion, Genoa, Italy. :usd:

That sounds eerily similar to a statement made by some guy named Jim Jannard, about some hack/scam of a 4k camera. You may have heard about it, I dunno... :innocent:

Ed;
I randomly found iSee4K at the iPhone apps store. Fantastic little app, THANKS! and I made a donation via http://www.isee4k.com/

I can't wait to see what else can be written to drive the camera with the iPhone. It would be amazing to have the menus avail through the iPhone.

Thanks again, Barry

slate app

Hello, just wanted to mention a small and cheap app I've just bought for the iPhone :

http://www.gravitropic.com/

it is promising and might not be 100% ready yet for pro users (only displays the time and not a customizable timecode, displays decimal fractions of secs instead of framerate, no speakable sound for scene / take number etc) but could be handy to sync 2 cams with no TC cable or audio when jam sync is not available...

(btw, I am not affiliatted with this app in any way, just thought you may like to know about it)

Thanks for that Mikael, I bought it and it works as advertised! I'll post a review on the app store requesting customisable framerate but it's pretty obvious when it "claps" :)

Too funny!! :)

Cheers,

I was thinking of making something along the lines of isee4k when I stumbled upon it on another thread.
Very handy app indeed!
And since I will be renting out my RED One in a few days, I thought I'd add an iPod Touch with this app (and in the future the controller for the Canon EF mount by alesniak) to the package.
So I donated twice since I will be using the app on two devices :)
Thanks Ed!
