  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Epic Dragon #5232 "Kozmo" - Los Angeles

Even the BTS Shorts are beautiful. :) can't wait to see what you've been up to!
Congrats on all these amazing opportunities you opened up for yourself.

RED Epic Dragon + KipperTie's Zero Pass/Full Spectrum OLPF + Infrared Longpass + Custom LUT = B/W Infrared Horse.

Hey Phil, Great stuff as always. I had a question about the CZ 28-80 step-down ring. Did you get a 95 or 100? I'm never clamping it down. Thanks!

Thanks Keith. I'm using a 95mm hard ring. Been using clamp-on rings a lot more these days for lens and rig stability.

Thanks Phil! 95mm it is.

Super cool. Thanks for sharing! I haven't shot infrared since doing some stills about fifteen years ago. This looks tempting… Good thing to start researching since my Dragon upgrade is delivering today!

Been a minute since I dropped any BTS.

Stills from last Friday's shoot with my "bouncy" jib setup which was needed for this shot oddly.

RED Epic Dragon 5.5K + STH OLPF + Schneider Cine-Xenar III Primes for the shoot.

Also built my new "home" workstation recently in preparation to making the move to 8K later this year. Mainly needed a bit more processing power, RAM, better GPU (NVIDIA Titan X), and a much larger working RAID space as I do plan on working natively with the Weapon 8K Dragon .R3Ds on the box. Been testing out some of the new Adobe Premiere Pro CC features in the next Adobe CC update. Loving the Lumetri Color Panel and the new "main" .R3D editing capabilities. No more clicking "Source Settings". It's just always there now ready to use.

Other than that a bit of creative and technical writing going on while I await my leave date for the next leg of this larger shoot I've been doing, which Dragon has been killing on. Had a couple delays, which are bound to happen, but it's been good as there's been a couple small shoots to knock out.

Other than that, have a good weekend. Go to the movies for some car or superhero fun.

Heh. Remember that horse image. I rarely do anything on accident :)

I'm on location shooting something really interesting and tricky with my Epic Dragon and more Epic Dragons.

It's been a long day. Nearly 18 hours. However, at this moment I feel it's necessary to say thank you to Red. You have been and continue to be everything I've been looking for. I can honestly say this particular opportunity, which is producing some of my best Dragon footage to date, is due to your hard work and effort in advancing what we consider as a "digital cinema camera".

Late night delirious love, but thank you. Thank you for everything.

+1 Mio

:-))

Just a small update for those who follow whatever the heck I'm doing.

This has been a birthday to remember for sure. Hell, all of 2015 has been phenomenal really.

I'm out of town shooting on a great gig with my Epic Dragon and other folks Dragons creating some stellar images on my birthday no less. Couldn't be happier about this wonderful experience. Truly shooting with the best gear to create very high quality motion pictures.

Also, I was recently selected to be the newest Zeiss Ambassador, which is a great honor and privilege. Lucky number 7 it seems.

Couple grabs of something that will coming out in the near future:

Those are the little Westcott Flex lights that I picked up from the group buy a bit ago. They ended up being way more useful than I expected. Really dig how compact and lightweight they are.

And some bts of what is going on now:

And a quick snap of my little travel kit:

I'm rolling a TON of footage each day on the 1TB MINI-MAGs and they are essentially a life saver on a shoot like this. I have the RED Focus with me to inspect the other Epic Dragons I've been using while abroad. I also built a little 8TB offload RAID using the new Samsung 2TB 850 EVO SSDs that's working well. Might build a larger one when I'm back in town for the main workstation.

I'm back in LA mid-August, but I'm getting the feeling this might be close to the last shoot on my Epic Dragon before it transforms into a Weapon Dragon. I'm very much looking forward to that and particularly the 8K Dragon sensor in there. I've been preparing for a while to go "all 8K" and am very excited about the format size. I've put the glass together, the workstation, and a few of the other pieces. Jarred just dropped some images of the camera assembly line and it's got me wicked excited to start creating images with Weapon in the near future.

More updates soon with images once this job and a few others are wrapped and released.
