  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Dragon - It's Just Paint.

Love your threads. Always direct, simple, lots of infos in just one thread. All that with modesty despite the knowledge. Far from people overestimating themselves and screaming all around. Congrats.

I was driving Phil's Dragon files through several different photo and cine grading apps like Davinci Resolve, Scratch, Photoshop 6, Lightroom 5, Capture Pro 7, DXO Optics Pro 8

and they all made pretty nice images and Lightroom 5 has got my favourite when you apply Old Polar effect. Have a look at four Lightroom 5 examples below

Messed with a few R3Ds in RCX... holy shibalba, this sensor is bananas.

Hey Phil ! GREAT JOB ! Answered a lot of SKIN / make up issues some people have.

Question.. was the Carbon Dragon alot lighter than the standard M... noticeable ? especially in small mode.
I'm thinking about getting one as my personal camera... For when I sneak out by myself. The current M is just gets a tad heavy after a few hours.

Nice work again. Well done.

I really have no words. I mean, every Dragon test shown in RU has been incredibly illustrative and mind blowing in its own way, but there is nothing like watching first hand the .r3d's in RCX or Resolve. Vimeo certainly does no justice to Dragon. Wish we could get some .r3d's from the other guys.

Anyways, thanks again for sharing, Phil.
And THANK YOU RED!!!!

i'm sure more R3D's will come now. However some of the earlier stuff may not work even in Dragon enabled RCX, as it required a specific development build of RCX to work...

Wow, beautiful work Phil. The sensor, yeah it's great. It's going to be out of this world. The subject, the makeup, and your shots look amazing.

Here's a little black & white edit/grade I did with one of your shots. Thanks for posting the r3d files.

I just realised that Dragon is more significant than I thought before seeing these grabs and playing with them in RCX. Now I need to figure out how the hell I'm going to be able to afford the upgrade. Damn! :-)

Test Images

Test Images

So yesterday I was able to spend a couple hours with the Carbon Dragon.

** make sure you "download original" as Vimeo's low bit rate re-compression destroys the good stuff.

I appreciate the effort but I have to kindly disagree with everyone here about these images that are good. I do not see why they are good. They are sharp alright but in my opinion I suspect that the Dragon is way more capable than these images. All the images look un natural and fake to me.

The skin colors (the ones you can see from the makeup lady who has a ton of makeup) are not skin tones. I used to shoot way better pics with my Hasselblad in 1977.

Phil, why you or anyone else do not take some real people with no makeup in real light conditions day and night, faces, faces, real faces and nature, no cars and buildings?

Then we can see the real Dragon which I suspect is by far superior to this.

Thanks!

I'm pretty impressed with Dragon and RG3, RC3. Remember, the Dragon will have a new color science soon, which should be an improvement. I'm not sure how these images look fake and unnatural to you, but beauty (and skin tones) are in the eye of the beholder I guess.
