  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Judging by the plane in the background, my money would be on 'The Dam Busters'

Probably, but given the Dambusters (617SQN) were English and flew Lancaster bombers, I'm not sure how a Corsair (which was a US Navy aircraft) fits into the picture.... unless it's part of a larger warbirds collection at the place they were shooting and happened to be in the background of the photo by coincidence.

Also for those looking, notice how the LCDs on the tri-camera rig are opposed with their cables running across the bodies, so that the operator sees the image right way round, meaning it's definitely set for panoramic shooting.

Thanks for the cool photos Jim!

Dambusters eh?
I have a working/flying Lancaster in my back yard that's part of a larger warplane heritage museum. I haven't heard anything but ya never know...

The Old stick and Rudder Company has wide range of warbirds.

Still cool pictures though. I know he lost weight during King Kong but he wasn't THAT skinny during King Kong. I'm impressed, and I just want to lose like 30 lbs and I can't even do that.

You might find it easier if you could afford a personal trainer and specially prepared food like Peter (and most actors who also seem to magically be able to change weight classes quickly) can.

They aren't using the Canadian Lanc for filming, as i understand it. They measured her, the BBMF one, and a couple of the hanger queens in excruciating detail, both inside and out, and are using a combination of Cg, practical minis and 1:1 replicas for filming.

People often ask me about my jib, and how to operate the camera pan and tilt from the back, where the counterweights are. I say the Seven is built to hold your fluid head under your camera and you operate the head and raise the jib up and down from the front. This is usually met with a long silence. So now I can just send them this photo of Peter Jackson doing it this way. It's very intuitive and immediate.

That only works up to camera height of about 6 feet though right?

I owned the early jimmy jib I used it in this "hand held " mode.
The Dolphin Arm a british piece of kit circa 1980 was purpose built to be used this way.
Sure you have control until you run out of arms length!
However if the shot calls for a elevation to a wide shot one doesn't have to do much tilting at all to keep a distant horizon static in frame.
The early jimmy jib could go to 13ft, once the horizon was set in frame at say 6 feet one doesn't need to tilt when the camera is raised higher.
Conversely you can set the shot when the jib is high by using a monitor and then drop it down and take control when it is within arms reach.
Although offering less range of movement it is faster to setup than a remote head and obviously more suited to video than film.

It is a lot of fun to go in "hand held mode" with a 30ft jib too....

oh, am i supposed to be impressed because it's peter "i can't cut all that crap on the boat in king kong" jackson?

since we're all commenting on his appearance, i'd suggest he complete the make-over by ditching the beard. please, can we do away with the bearded director look.

"Clifford"...
