  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can someone explain what the three cameras are doing? My first thought was 3D but I've never seen 3 cams do it. Looks awesome

I don't know, my immediate reaction would be maybe some kind of ULTRA wide screen rig, BUT they all seem to be focused on the same point, so I am not 100% sure exactly what it could be.

Although, I guess that'd make sense if they wanted to seamlessly blend them together, and them all being focus closer together would reduce any potential distortion and make the images easier to blend together.

Not really, not unless that point is only about a foot in front of the cameras. This looks very much like a Cinerama type setup, with the camera on the left side of the rig (from the operator's perspective) shooting the right panel, the middle camera shooting the middle panel, and the right camera shooting the left panel. And yes, this would be a good way to shoot oversized plates for pan and tile techniques - or for a very large projection scenario, like a motion simulation or theme park application.

no one should be allowed to rack up that many red cameras next to each other. it's just not fair to the rest of us who can't afford one and can't buy a scarlet because there are none yet.

that three camera setup is mocking me right now. let me take another look at it.... yup. it's still mocking me.

Is all of this related to the artical where Peter jackson says hes busy testing out new technology???

Omg give me the details!

:D:D

Peter Jackson you lucky barsted. Hes probly going to be one of the first few to try Epic and Scarlet.

I think the movie's called "Film Busters". (Just kidding, I know that film will secretly be around for another 50 years.) As for the 3 camera rig, my guess is that its for shooting the full-res 4k aerial plates for match-up later, so the camera in the bombardier's position (the plexiglas nose of the bomber) can be hand-held when they shoot the actor looking through the Bombsight on the greenscreen stage.

And people question a use for the 28K Epic 617. Well there you go...you could replace those 3 Reds with one Epic 617. I'm sure PJ is first in line for one of those not to mention everything else in the Red store. He does have a little credit with Red I think.

It's 6D. 2D per camera. Graeme can probably verify the math: 3x2=

Or maybe they're setting up to minimize variables between cameras during a comparison shoot of.... you name it. Different "builds" and so on.

Yeah, but after a proper debayer and multi-OLPF compensation you only get about 82% of that or a measured 4.92D. :couch:

Anyway, looks like a cinerama setup or "RED-O-RAMA" as David suggested. I'm anxious to see what this is all about.
