  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Re-grade your footage...

Could someone post a comparison with some ideally exposed skin tones?

There seems to be a far better handling of that delicate shadow saturation and halftone with the new color space and FLUT™ tools.

(Milk girls would be cool, and is a couple years long enough to be nostalgic?)

Yeah the milk girls would be cool!

RED Alert! has given way to REDCINE-X.

Jim

Too bad, I find Red Alert / Red Rushes much easier to use. I haven't used Red Cine for a while, but it really struggled with batch conversions, and I had a lot of problems with in/out points. Perhaps that's why Red Rocket is becoming a necessity.

only change between snaps is the orig color space to the new color space and gamma. I think this new color science will really help make the stuff look amazing.

Have played with a few old scenes, loving how much more punch stuff has now. FLUT = awesome.

Can't wait to see more from Redcine-X it's getting pretty slick! Can't wait for Apple to get some new color science and FLUT action.

In and out points are working well for me on Redcine-X.

Also I am very much loving reprocessing at old footage and seeing the difference in noise. It is a joy to use!!!

I spent all morning working with the new color science. I love it! Here's some old work:

You really pushed it on that last one, with the, Red flut. Great test results. Very exciting. Thanks for sharing, Justin.

Jim,

but my last post has exactly the same WB @ 5412K but it's at the another tread:

Wow, that brunette is very pretty. who is she?

One REDCine-X question: I see the Beta and Early Beta versions on the download page. Only one of which works on Windows (my system). Which Cine-X program relates to the new LUTs and gamma capabilities?

Hello everyone, Just out of curiosity (and the fact that i will be experimenting and making boneheaded errors!) why is there no undo feature with this program? Or is there an undo and just don't know what it is...

does new REDCINE-X support REDRocket?

does new REDCINE-X support REDRocket?

I have a REDRocket card and been using RocketCine-X. If I want to regrade footage I need REDCINE-X right? does that mean i can't use redrocket for redcolor?

Your RED Rocket works with REDCINE-X and you can select REDcolor/REDgamma in that app.

(Re: Page 1 of this thread):

Martin, Subjectively, I like all your "previous" footage better. I think you're losing in the translations somehow... The wrestlers are a bit too magenta, the kid is too blue...
These just my personal feelings...

Just tried a quick grading on my Windows laptop, never did much outside of WB before. I'm no coloring expert but I like the new interface and I think the new color settings handle skin tones better/"truer". [I only have access to two shots at the moment because of a bad power supply, if this comparison doesn't help highlight the subtle skin tone differences as I think it does, please feel free to delete it]

Great! Although, I must admit I prefer the grade on the REDSPACE/REDSPACE processed shot. I am a contrast junkie so this might be besides the point!

I'm not so sure about Red Gamma, for me personally.

I expose to the right as much as I can without clipping, (if I can). Ive been applying Redgamma to a lot of old footage and it seems to overexpose and white-out parts which are in the upper range of the histogram. I've seen a few shots where my skin tones lose all colour and go white - even though the histogram still says there is no clipping after applying RedGamma. I can drag the flut slider down to recover my skin tones, but the shot is now too dark overall.

Grading with the standard rec709 gamma seems to give the smoothest look and my skin tones dont get pushed up to near white. I'm just thinking if I was shooting with redgamma in camera I'd have a tendency to underexpose because of this.

I'm all for options, please keep adding them - just don't lose rec709 ;-)

Karl, that's fair enough - because if you used a particular gamma to make exposure decisions, it would seem reasonable that such a curve would be a good point to start with, especially if you're at ISO320. Now was you go up higher ISOs, REDgamma being brighter means you don't need to go up as high an ISO.

REC709 being kept on - don't worry there.
