Hello all. I am definitely late but finally placed a pre order today for the Raven base I/O package. I am very excited. I have shot shot Red several times but want to give ownership a try and the Raven seems like the best entry point. I was thinking Scarlet W but for my needs at the moment, the Raven should be fine.

I have a few questions and was hoping some of you could help me out. Forgive me if they have been asked before.
Will the I/O expansion module accept timecode?

As far as the camera itself, I have shot with the Epic Dragon and know the importance of proper black shading. Is this the same process with the Raven and does it have the same ability to save settings for various frame rates and shooting conditions?

YES Base I/O provides TC IN via SYNC port and proper 3 bnc cable
YES you can save black shading maps but it should also have, like other DSMC2 brains, the auto-black shading feature (do it once at operating temp, takes a bit longer but will then auto adjust when exposure time changes)

Hi Tony,

Yep, the DSMC2 Base I/O V-Lock and Base I/O Expanders both accept Timecode in.

Black Shading is still a "thing", but it's very different if you use the Automatic Black Shade feature. When you adjust your shutter speed for instance it will load the correct profile within a few seconds and you don't need to stop shooting, load up, or perform an additional Black Shade. This has been a massive time saver for me. The camera temperature seems to be more stable as well.

Thanks guys. That auto black shading feature sounds great. I will check out more info. So that will carry over to Raven?

Also how big do you guys find the interchangeable OLPF's to be in the other cameras? I have only shot with a Dragon and the standard filter and previous versions before that feature was available. Is this something that will cause struggles with Raven in certain conditions or is the standard filter pretty versatile for the most part?
What would be some potential hangups with not having the ability to swap it out?

Phil will give you all the details but in a nutshell, Standard is everything a good versatile DRAGON OLPF should be...

I see no hangups having this one installed all the time, except if you have to shoot infrared, if you always shoot underwater or wish to experiment with some special dedicated OLPF.
LowLight and SkinTone might keep some small advantages for either pushing into darkness or preserving a bit more highlights but overall the standard is the sweet spot we've all been waiting for since Dragon sensor was offered.

Thanks Mikael. That is good to hear.

Second everything he has to say. Standard is scarilier (if that's even a word) good.

Although, the options of the interchangble system are highly tempting (so I'd understand if you are still considering the Scarlet-W.)

Haha. Yes still very tempting. I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with the Raven though.
