  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RAPTOR

1. Yes, they should work. The Micro Batteries should not be wider than 75mm. Compatible Batteries
2. Probably not.
3. The 5pin Lemo "AUDIO" receptacle offers 2 audio channels with optional +48v phantom power. more information
4. No official documents released yet, but a 98wh battery should last approximately 1 hour (according to Jarred Land)
5. As far as I know, there's no swappable OLPF system for Raptor. Maybe the "Ranger version"?

Thank you for the links. Damn, my GDU batteries and dynacore 155's wont work then without the adapter. :(

The GDU batteries 100% work, unless I'm nuts. Like half my test shoot was on them.

That FAQ though confirms what I thought about some of those lower capacity Micros. I'd only use those if you really need to trim the weight for some reason. I used basically a few 98Wh and 150Wh options when I tested the camera.

So Raptor is the name of the camera AND the sensor?
It would be a first in Red’s history !

maybe it's a "V" Sensor ?

Unknown. But it does seem the camera body and sensor name are as one.

Official camera name is "RED V-Raptor 8K VV". Though on it's rear 8K VV is written 8K-VV.

Those with keen eyes will notice there's no skull on the camera, which seems to be an issue for one or two persons. There is one on boot however briefly.

Imagine if Dr. Grant or anybody from the Jurassic Park films knew about this camera, they would be so traumatized by the Raptor name they'd scream! :) All the carnage those pesky speeders have caused over the years.

V-Raptor seems to be a good way to circumvent any Raptor related names, which there are many. Velocity Raptor or Velociraptor is how it reads for me. Most convos and online posts I've had so far has just been Raptor though.

I always liked the skull, ..

I'm simply quoting for the JP mention. For many reasons, I have an obsession with this story, although I assure you it is not pathological. Yet? ;-)

Same. I'm biased as I also have a skull logo since I was a teenager, but it's based more on the skull being an object of reference, mystery, and inspiration. Which is why many artists kept them in their study, studio, or on their desk. There's one to the left of me right this second.

No need to dive deeply into these waters here. This topic has been explored a lot. I think though we might be past some of the more controversial naming conventions though.

Happy though I don't have a camera called RX5000ra-R though :) Raptor makes life a lot easier on that front.

Thanks for the bump on this question Russ.
Tried to start that conversation in yesterdays livestream.
Hope someone on the RED Team jumps in.
Seems someone would have an answer to these questions. Even if its that they are not up and working yet but will be in the future. Or we feel there was not a need to continue with these functions.
Anyone at RED????? Bueller,,,,,Bueller,,,,Bueller?
Hey Phil how about flipping on your camera and seeing if there is any time-lapse or Frame Summing/Averaging in your menus...Thanks.

That was Jarred's camera and he got it about 35 minutes after I wrapped the last shot the beach. Not kidding. I currently don't have a Raptor in my hands. But I'm starting a summing ceremony later this evening. Hide your virgins, chickens, and goats.

I have chickens and will make sure they are in the coop this evening. Can you summon one for me as well.:smilielol5:

Exactly ! The old compression format was better! LQ at 7: 1 it's a shame

I need less bigger option in some cases .. fingers crossed for a proxy compression close to 12: 1 (or let us define in the menu what HQ, MQ and LQ mean)

THIS OPTION WOULD BE AMAZING!!!! you dial in your own presets. I wish that were possible.

Any word on a panavision PV to RF mount. I love the idea of reds RF to PL ND mount and if something like it was released with a PV mount, that would be great for some larger sets.

Can't wait to get my new Raptor. I guess that everyone at the Red Co. are all wrapped up in getting initial orders for the Raptor out and and working on getting all the add-on elements in order to augment use of the masterpiece called Raptor. I am really excited about prospects associated with getting this camera.
