  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RAPTOR

Wow, looks great!! :D

Wish I could upgrade my Weapon Helium 8k to this. :) I'll wait to see what comes down the line though. Congrats on those awesome specs! I thought my Weapon was my ultimate camera. I guess I was wrong. :D

Suppose we’ll find this all out at 4p, but what are the odds of DSMC2-DSMC3 upgrade pricing? That was one of the original draws of RED, to stay in the family. Hoping this doesn’t tank DSMC2 resale values. Love my Komodo, would love to give it a big brother!

what's the logic behind an integrated RF mount?

I firmly stand behind it being the best mount that exists right now for a lot of reasons... Canon did a great job. Plus if you look close it is a special RF mount, We added a lock ring to it so it's super stable.

Trade in for the DSMC2?

Love it! That’s been pretty much my only niggle with the Komodo - finding a PL that’s sooooper secure in the mount. :)

Is there a possible Gold Mount option for the back end? :)

Pretty Please! Is there an upgrade path for ST Komodo owners?

This is a camera I need for all the Red Bull extreme sport stuff, small, compact, Vlock is there, record button on the right side, 120FPS on full sensor... but with 2 Dragons and 1 komodo... do i really need another Red :D

Love this form factor.

So what is the USB-C on the back for? And does it provide power?

How is the power drain compared to a weapon?

Red now has 2 cams really....Komodo and the Raptor. Kudos to RED for recognizing the lower priced market and trying to gain more attention/customers. Komodo brought in the indie crowd, and now the Raptor should be successful for the upper level DPs. Starter kit is smart too...a way to get a basic operational package and keep that extra $5k spending towards RED. RED has really started to come around to market realities in that they needed to offer something more affordable to really continue progressing and leading the industry in the way they once did.

Couple of concerns:
I do wish FF mode was avail at 4k/6k resolutions too...I think that's a disappointment, but it's what RED has done since the beginning...change resolution, crop the sensor. A lot of people are looking at 6k acquisition instead of 8k due to data rates..so would have been amazing to have 6K FF sensor access. Prob Red's way of avoiding pixel binning.

Pro res internal would have been another HUGE selling point in this sector. Yea, R3D is great...but a lot of productions still don't like the raw workflow and prefer pro res.

Again...congrats on the release. Interesting times for sure. Cams are now more affordable than ever...which is on the contrary to things like motor vehicles. haha!

This really ticked a lot of wishlist boxes. Looks great. Canon has some phenomenal RF lenses for those of us that shoot underwater and wildlife.

Reading between the lines of the new naming conventions, and this being labeling the first of the DSMC3 line, I’m guessing V-Raptor is Vistavision-Raptor. Might also be an S35 raptor or a dual iso Gemini Raptor, or monochrome raptor…
