  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Quickplate V-Lock Battery module ready to ship

Maybe it's a weight issue ? Redvolts XL are not too heavy so it's not a problem attaching them directly to the brain. V-Mount batteries on the other hand can become pretty heavy (up to 3 lbs for 230 Wh), so my guess is that Red decided to go the safe route and go through the adapter module.

If that's not the case, then I'd really like to have a version that attaches without the adapter module, similar to the Redvolt XL module, for the same reasons you gave.
Nils,

That can't be the case. When directly attached to the camera, the XL module is bolted on just like the adapter plate. My guess is that the XL module innovation is a new idea that has yet to spread to the likes of the V-mount plate.

Does this module provide output power to the 2x AUX ports from the SideHandle RedVolt as well as from the V-mount?
When I go hand held I need some AUX power for accessories like my Bartech or an additional side LCD monitor for the focus puller. In past, we had to always use a V-mount to power these items as the SideHandle did not supply the power ports of the +1 Module.

We have them and YES - they provide power to the 2x AUX ports from the SideHandle RedVolt.

So ... if you use the SideHandle RedVolt for hot swap - and you have AKS plugged into your 2x AUX ports on the side - you are just fine.

Which brings me to another product idea - I suggested, in another thread, a "Hot Swap Module" - basically, a rechargeable cell in a module adapter form-factor - BUT ... it occurs to me that since on every TV show and feature film we support on EPIC - nobody uses the side handle (unless they are desperate for a hot-swap solution) ... what would be really cool is if RED could make a low-profile "hot swap stick" that mounts into the side-handle port - the way Brook/Viewfactor did with the Stealth Plate. That would be bad ass as I'm sure it could be done in a much smaller, lower-profile form-factor than the side handle and would obviously be cheaper/easier to manufacture than a "Hot Swap Module" assuming one could source a rechargeable cell in the right form-factor. Just thinking out loud -

If you're right, then I'd definitely love to see that adapted to the v-mount plate. The solution they found on the Redvolt XL module is really clever, best of both worlds.

anyone using the quick plate v-lock battery module already? does it work with all v-mount batteries or only with red bricks?
best wishes and kind regards,
martin

The Quick Plate I received is working with batteries that report battery percentages, but the Endura 10s I threw on as a test doesn't work--Epic reports 0% battery capacity, displays a low power warning and starts a 30 second power count down. Doesn't seem to switch over to voltage readout as it would if power was coming in via DC input and a battery belt plate, so thinks the battery is depleted when it's not. Upgraded camera to 5.1.23 beta firmware to test with.

This just an issue with the unit I have, or anyone else happen to test with a non-REDBrick/percentage reporting battery and see similar?

my Global Media Pro 160's are showing battery percentage. Note that this module does NOT work unless you run current beta firmware - if you're running release firmware and the module/adapter are connected to the brain (even without a battery connected to the mount, and a redvolt in the handle) it essentially disables the side handle and LCD/EVF signal; the side handle display recognizes power as DC and shows lens aperture only, and will not feed signal to the touchscreen or EVF. You have to run beta with this setup.

I like your idea Mark, I'd buy it.

Why is that? The form factor is too big? It doesn't look "professional"? I've found that navigating with the Sidehandle is so much simpler and faster than with the Touchscreen, I feel lost without a Sidehandle.

Cheers,
Damien

We saw the same reaction initially when EPICs first hit the streets - but these days - AC's rock the touch screens with ease - and they are always looking for more real-estate on that side of the camera to attach AKS related boxes, etc.

of course ... what I really want is the ability to allow ACs to change settings without touching the camera ... via wifi support for the camera and iPhone/iTouch app to change camera settings over wifi.

In the RED site sales info for the Epic it indicates that the Gig-E port can be used for Remote Control... even that would be handy (but I've never seen an app. for doing it).

thanks tom.

does anyone know the exact type of lemo connectors (right angle) i have to order for soldering my own cables for using my accessories via the power outlets on the v mount plate? these are not the same as on the pro i/o module or the +1 module.

would be helpful if red could add to the store partly assembled cables (with open ends) for the v mount plate and for the pro i/o or/and +1 module...

sadly there are 3 different 12v plugs used for ONE camera system.

let´s see what the future brings up on more different connectors...

:-(

Will this EVER be made in an Anton Baur Gold mount? I hate Vmount, AB is better in every way. I don't want an adapter plate, I want a native AB mount. Frustrating because the BEST part of this is that REDVOLTS power these extra lemo ports. That is seriously badass, and unique to Red products vs others. Sigh. Red?

+1!

I ordered mine on 8th September, yet it says on the website Orders placed today expected to ship within 7-10 business days

I received mine today. Did a quick test, powers my camera alright but indeed does not work with 4.0.18, as is mentioned on the product's page: "requires firmware v5.1.14 or later", so time to go beta...
Latest beta v5.1.26 from October 31st.
Cheers,
Damien

Here's a dumb question... every pic of the V-Mount adapter I've seen has shown a Red battery mounted - is there any issue with using other (good quality) v-mount batteries with that mount? I've got Bebob's. I'm planning to buy it and a +1 module but would like to be able to use the batteries I've already got. I know sometimes Red is particular about what you plug into the camera...
