  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Quick Look - LG 31" DCI 4K Monitor

Sounds like we should inquire about group buy possibilities?

Anyone know of a decent case for this beaut? The extra inch or so is fantastic for ME but horrible for TRANSPORT!

LG 31MU97 PDF says H/W Calibration = Yes

Does anyone know which measurement devices are supported.....i1 Display? Spyder4?

I have tried both and neither worked for me....

Apparently this display uses GB-LED backlighting, which complicates calibration with these tools...

But, I am not a calibration expert --- I hope someone can shed some light on this...

And for the last time...has anyone got this LG display to work with a REDRAY?

Hi guys, can anybody tell me, if the display should be HDCP compatible? And if so, how.
I just tried to watch some netflix content, but it gave me an HDCP error and stopped playing.

Strange, yes it it HDCP compatible.

My only suggestion would be to try another cable.

Thank you Grant! I'll try some more. Tried the Display and HDMI cable which came with. So I hoped these had to do the trick. Hmmm

Is there a shop to pick one of these up in LA?

It's hard not to get excited about upgrading to 4k. After years, it's only a short drive to fries to make it happen. I'd love to take Phil out to lunch, see his rig, pick his brain but people are busy. Am I being hasty, have I fully researched if 4k at 60 hz will work on my 2009 Mac Pro with a GTX980 install. Unfortunately, no.

So one last check with my fellows here:

Can I function... no... excell in an editing and coloring environment with this monitor and my 2009 Mac Pro tower.

2.9 gig 8 core nehalam
48 GB Ram
2GB GTX 980 Graphics
Red Rocket X
Caldigit RAID Card
Caldigit 2x USB 3.0 and 2. eSata expander.

Anything I need to know or will find out later?

And you are long overdue for some beers from the RU community for your contributions to RU/Tech/Filmmaking.

Apologies for not being able to meet up right this moment. I'm working rather long days to hit a very tight deadline.

I don't have a system that old driving a 4K display and am little help there, but your GPUs will handle it. However, due note that you are going to be running a significantly higher resolution screen. Things like Resolve for instance demand RAM on the GPU. 2GB might not cut it.

My LG screen has been working fine for me. I'm currently working on it and writing from it. However, I'm on an I7 system with a 6GB nVidia Titan, which is a different beast.

What about connecting? Is dvi with an adapter capable of 4k?

For 4K @60hz. Which connection do I use

i1 Display Pro is supported, but the software LG calibration software is broken on the Mac OS, and LG's support has been -- shall we say "unresponsive." I don't know if it works on PCs.
