  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Questions..?

Sorry for double posting this question:

Would we be able to flip the 5" screen vertically? Is it in the works? Would be great for different rig setups.

Thanks for the Power Management push, Jarred!

I don't think I'll sleep until then. :)

Jarred, just wanted to take a moment and say how much we appreciate and love you guys. What you have done in the past few years has truly changed our lives. It feels so good being a part of the RED family and knowing how good we are being taken care of. I feel safe and can concentrate on making movies. I'm doing exactly what I should be doing.

So, thanks for that. It means the world to me...

As Jim would say, "Sleep tight, RED is awake."

Jarred - Wow - amazing things coming out of RED. Thanks!

I have one suggestion and two questions:

1. A new mode whereas the fans can be set to keep the camera at a certain temperature so as to keep the temp very close to black shade temperature for the least possible noise. Show deviation from black shade temp as range of colors from green to red.

A printed html table could be created with different ambient air temperatures, the desired temperature, and the fan speed necessary to maintain that temp (to keep fan noise down).

2. Will HDMI 1080p24 be in the next firmware release?

Scarlet users generally have less resources and having to replace monitors and 3rd party capture devices might make it seem like the Scarlet's base cost is higher.

Any money spent on SDI converters and replacement equipment cannot go to RED.

3. Is CUDA acceleration for debayering going to be added to the API? My sources tell me that ARRI is doing this.

This would make the cost of entry lower for Scarlet users, remove one perceived cost barrier and get them hooked on the RED for life. After getting hooked, they'll want Rockets at some point.

Hi Jarred,

Great NAB show! Probably the best one I have been to so far. They were so many RED goodies that I was overwhelmed! :)
Quick question (since I couldn't get to you at the show). Will playback with audio be enabled anytime soon?

heh heh if you think you are happy now.. just wait till you see all the stuff I haven't talked about in this thread that is coming :)

Ah the tease, the tease! Jarred, you're mastering an art which shouldn't be mastered!

Jarred - this thread is awesome. A little whiff of the good ol' days before RED had to shift to radio silence. Totally understandable, considering how hard your competitors have to chase you all nowadays. But getting answers to questions directly from you and Jim has always been part of the fun of owning these cameras.

My question isn't a question as much as an attempt to beg prettily for putting this item higher on your priority list - MOBILE RED ROCKET.

I bought my SCARLET to be my dream field camera. It is my dream field camera. I keep it super lightly rigged with an EVF and side handle and Canon lenses. It's light, beautiful, compact, and I love the images it produces. It has an eensy weensy flaw, though, and no end in sight to this situation. It's my dream field camera in every way but one. No ability to data-check in the field. I looked at the Maxx Digital Mobile Rocket system and an $8K price tag to be able to data-check my $9750 camera leaves me a little breathless - without camera-generated proxies, there is still no good way to do this, except to bring my data into my studio and data-check on a tower.

I don't have these issues with my EPIC-M, which I keep rigged for cinema use. Because feature films can typically afford a data wrangler with a tower. The DRAGON is only going to make matters more pressing because nature, wildlife, adventure, and outdoors shooters are the ones who stand to benefit substantially from the upgrade. The ability to data check in the field made easier would be a huge benefit to this class of shooter.

I work in both fields, nearly equally.

Either designing a firmware upgrade which allows SCARLET users to generate in-camera proxies or else providing a field ROCKET would perfect the system, and I would never, ever ask for anything ever again. Swear.

Okay, I always hate when people thread-crap with their not-quite-on-topic bullshit, so I will ask a question, just to stay on task. Will the Dragon require an additional power draw. How will this impact the use of, say, a single REDVolt with the camera - asking because I do use single REDVolts with my SCARLET presently, in the side handle, and am wondering if this will decrease batter life and, if so - how much? Any data points on that?

Thank you for an excellent time at NAB. You all put on a remarkable show this year, it was quite fun.

I have a Scarlett and a full set of anamorphic primes...when will I be able to use them together?

Jarred, with the rear ssd module, will it allow for rollover recording at last?

if by rollover recording you mean going from one card to the other when the first card is full, this is referred to as spanning in the data world. Spanning was confirmed by Jarred earlier in this thread.

What's stopping you from using them together now?
